Follow the directions
January 30, 2007 on 9:46 pm | In Uncategorized | 4 CommentsI used Veet this morning on my legs. For the most part, this is a good thing– my legs were scary hairy, and now they are silky smooth and looking great. I love the end effect of products like Veet and Nair, but using them really is a pain in the butt!
My word of caution? When they say not to use their product on irritated skin, or open sores, they mean it!! I didn’t check my legs for wounds before I started, but apparently I had a couple of scratches that I didn’t know about. How bad could it be, right? Well, it’s not the end of the world, but those particular scratches are still stinging almost 11 hours later. Eleven hours!!
I’ll definitely be checking for battle wounds before I use Veet the next time. Ouch.
Cleaning the roof
January 29, 2007 on 10:48 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment
I was sitting in my apartment this afternoon when I started hearing this strange scraping and banging noise. I ventured over to the window and peered out at the apartment complex next door, and see nothing… (they’re usually the ones making the obnoxious noises). So I start looking around my own apartment complex and I notice this. They’re trying to get the icicles off of the roof… I’m still not sure what they rigged up to get that “tool” they’re using. In retrospect, I should have tried to get a video, but I had to open the window to get this picture and it was COLD!
The guy on the left is my uncle, so I don’t feel bad about spying on them, photographing it, and posting it to my blog.
Another slightly funny thing that happened today… The same two guys were going around the complex checking smoke detectors and faucets to comply with the city fire code. I knew when they were coming, but I laid down about 2 hours before that… was still sleeping when they got here and didn’t hear them knock on the door. Since I didn’t answer, I think they assumed I wasn’t home, so they came in to check the things they needed to. They flicked on the hallway light and pushed the button on the smoke detector… I think that’s when they glanced into the bedroom and saw me “sleeping”. They beat a hasty retreat– I’m not sure they even checked the faucets!! I was so tired I just rolled over and went back to sleep. Now that I’m up though, I’m seriously amused!! I’ll have to ask Gwen about it when I go to pay my rent.
Self Portrait Sunday 1-28-07
January 29, 2007 on 1:55 am | In Footprints, Self Portrait Sunday | 7 CommentsWell, I’m just breaking all kinds of rules today. First of all, as it’s now 1:44 am, it’s technically Monday. Secondly, the picture(s) are not really of me. I know, I know. It’s called self portrait Sunday, but hey, he’s cuter than I am!!
I was unexpectedly out all day, and I spent the day with my adorable nephew, so I thought I’d share him with you!

This picture cracked me and his mama up because he was laughing and smiling at her like two seconds before the flash went off. The camera went in front of my face, and he immediately looked confused. And he didn’t smile again until Aunt Jennifer put the camera away. Little booger

It’s hard to see it exactly in this picture, but we were calling that his “gangsta” sign. He was sound asleep in his bassinet. Isn’t he precious??
So there’s my “cheater” Self-Portrait Sunday for this week. To play along, take a picture of yourself, post it to your blog, and visit Digi-Cass to let everyone know you did!
Phishing
January 28, 2007 on 8:07 am | In Internet | 1 CommentDear Phishers,
If you wish to phish my Citibank account, first make sure I *have* a CitiBank account. (I don’t.) Next step? Write in intelligent English, using proper spellings, capitalizations, and grammar.
Better luck next time,
Jennifer
Warning to all of you out there who DO have CitiBank cards (and a general reminder to everyone else), there are people out there trying to get information. Always be cautious when you get an email requesting you to log in to your account, or provide account log-in information. Hover over links to see where they lead before you click on them. This particular email has three links, two of which actually lead to Citibank’s real website. The third, and the one they are asking you to follow, “redirects” from a phishing website.
Pay attention, and protect your sensitive information! Before you delete the email, consider checking the official website, and seeing if/where they would like you to forward your fake email.
Moola
January 28, 2007 on 2:47 am | In Internet | 2 CommentsThanks to my girl Loretta, I was invited to a cool new website this weekend. It’s called Moola.com. It’s currently in beta, so it’s invitation only. It’s a pretty neat concept. Everyone who registers gets a penny (a free one, I might add). You play a game with another player, and the person who wins doubles their penny. You move up to level two, and you can risk your two pennies for the chance to win four pennies. Continue winning 30 times, and you walk away with a grand total of $10,737,418.24!
I’ve never been very good at these sorts of things, so I’ve only got 38 cents right now. But my penny is growing and hopefully will continue to grow. You can cash out any time, and there are other opportunities to win money. They have a search and win feature that operates like a normal search engine, but you may have a chance to spin the wheel for extra money.
Don’t worry if you lose all your money, you still get to start over with another free penny. Pretty cool. I have all three of my invitations still, if anyone is interested in playing for themselves.
Lack of oxygen?
January 26, 2007 on 12:20 am | In Working Woman | 1 CommentAwhile back, the powers-that-be decided to remodel one of the buildings we have here. By remodel, of course, I mean that they probably would have been better off to level the whole darn thing and start over. After many, many delays, they finally have enough of the building complete to start moving people in. Although they still have a long way to go before being completely done, enough employees (and their personal property) have moved in that my boss added the buttons for our monitored rounds over there last weekend. Imagine my surprise when I come in to work after my days off and find a memo detailing where to find all six of the buttons. This in and of itself is not a surprise. The buttons themselves were hung on Friday, and I went and found them then. The surprising (and slightly disturbing part) comes in the note about button number six:
“It is in an open room wherein the first and second floors are not separated in all places. The tanks located on the lower level contain Nitrogen and Argon. Although inert, Nitrogen and Argon displace oxygen. If you enter the room and you are breathing, but feel like you’re not getting any air, you’re probably not. Get out of the area, and notify maintenance.”
Um, yeah. How’s that to make you paranoid? Obviously it’s not very likely to happen, and so long as you pay attention to whether or not you’re getting air, you’ll be okay, but still. Where’s my motivation not to simply skip this button and go on my way? I like my air with oxygen in it, thanks.
I will exercise for comments
January 25, 2007 on 3:18 am | In Health and Wellness | 8 Comments
I’ve mentioned several times that I need to get my butt moving, but I seem to lack the motivation to do it on my own. Sooo… in conjuction with my Weightloss Wednesdays, I decided to join those who are exercising for comments.
How it works: I pledge to get my butt moving for every comment that I receive. This will either be 1 minute of walking or other cardio, one push-up, or one sit-up, etc. For example, if I receive 15 comments today, I will walk for 15 minutes. I am putting one rule out there though– these must be legitimate comments. Posting. Comments. One. At. A. Time. Like. This. Will garner you one minute of exercise, not one minute for each post. Let’s be reasonable here!!
Additionally, there’s something in it for you too!! Besides making me work, you’ll have another comment in your favor. If you look at my sidebar, you’ll see the feature “Top Commentators.” The ten people who have the most comments on my blog are featured with a valid link to their blogs on my sidebar (these would be the links you leave in your comments, so use the same name every time to get credit)! It’s a win/win situation… my waist gets smaller, and your incoming links get bigger!
Weightloss Wednesday, Week Three
January 24, 2007 on 11:19 pm | In Health and Wellness | 3 CommentsWeight Lost
This week: ____
Last week: 1lb
I’m going to have to fill in this week’s totals when I get home. I totally blanked on getting my weight for today. By the time I remembered, I was dressed for work and already running late. I’ll have to do that in the morning.
This was not a good week for weight loss, so I’m not overly optimistic. If I’m being completely honest, the only reason I’m not throwing in the towel completely is the fact that I’ve promised to update you all weekly. That was the entire point of joining Weightloss Wednesdays, so I guess that much at least is working.
Since I didn’t follow my plan last week, those goals still stand. It may be a self-fulfilling prophecy, but I really don’t see doing all that well this week either. I have very little for healthy food left in my apartment, and I don’t have the money to go grocery shopping. I have enough money to get milk, bread and eggs and that’s about it.
And of course, just in time for my diet to implode, the girl scout cookies arrived. I ordered them back before I decided to try and lose weight this year. I joked with Erica that since they were ordered before the diet started, they’d be grandfathered in.
How did everyone else do this week?
American Idol
January 23, 2007 on 11:59 pm | In American Idol, Television | 1 Comment
Show of hands, who is watching American Idol this year? I have to admit, thus far I’m rather unimpressed. I love AI though, so I’m hoping it gets better before too much longer. I don’t understand all the backlash though. All the contestants signed waivers, this is season number six, and they all know darn well what they are getting themselves into. I do think they are being a little harsher this year than in other years, but so far that just seems to mean not letting mediocre people through just for the sake of being nice.
As far as tonight’s wanna-bes… not a great bunch it seems. I really liked, what was his name? Sundance? Shame that his parents were that mean, but I really liked his voice! I can tell already that he’s going to be one of my favorites going into Hollywood, and hopefully on into the competition.
I had to laugh at Tamique (I think? I didn’t catch the spelling of her name…). She had the personality of a cardboard cut out.
I didn’t really have anything particular to say about any of the rest of them, but those two stood out. One good, one bad.
Is Idol on tomorrow night?? I think so, but until they get on their “regular” schedule, I can never keep track.
Self Portrait Sunday 1-21-07
January 21, 2007 on 10:40 pm | In Footprints, Self Portrait Sunday | 6 Comments
This is my picture for this week’s Self Portrait Sunday. I’m all curled up in my blanket watching the Colts play the Patriots. About a minute after I snapped this picture is when the Colts scored their final touchdown, putting them in the lead. I was too busy celebrating to take another picture after that point!
I’m so excited about the Bears and the Colts playing each other in the Superbowl!! I do have to come clean though, I didn’t think it would happen– I thought we’d be seeing the Saints play the Patriots. Boy am I glad I was wrong!! This will be the first Superbowl in a long time where I’ll care about more than just the commercials. I need to find some place to watch the game. CBS doesn’t come in on this TV well at all.
I’ll have to crack out my football book and study up. I don’t really understand football, but I’m trying. I made pretty good progress when I was dating my last boyfriend because I decided if I was going to have to watch the games, I may as well understand them. He didn’t have the patience to answer my questions though! lol
Well, there you have it. If you’d like to play along in the Self-Portrait Sunday, just take a picture of yourself and post it to your blog. Then visit DigiCass and let her know you’re playing so we can all come visit!
