Britney in rehab

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

The speculation has been unreal ever since news broke last week that Britney Spears had shaved her head, and then gone to get a tattoo. Many of her more rabid fans insisted that everyone was “hating” and that she was still beautiful. When I was looking at the pictures of her with her head freshly shaved, I didn’t see beautiful. I saw a girl who is very close to my age coming apart at the seams. Apparently, she’s decided to get the help she needs because according to CNN, she’s officially checked into a drug rehab center, although her representatives won’t disclose what drug she’s trying to ditch. I really hope she gets the help she needs… it’s no fun to watch someone self-destruct, celebrity or no, and she’s got two little boys who need her.

Grocery Shopping

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Reason #437 why I hate living in an apartment: going grocery shopping requires making several trips up a flight of stairs. I have to have a hand free on the first trip up to open the lobby door and then the apartment door. Then up and down, back and forth to the car.

I spent $120 at the grocery store today, which might sound like a lot for just me, but I stocked up on the necessities. With the way my paychecks fall, I can’t afford to go shopping every week. Today was my “big shopping” day, and I stocked up on toilet paper, kleenex, paper towel, cat litter, cat food, etc. It will probably be a month before I do “real” grocery shopping again. Until then, I’ll run in for milk, bread, that kind of thing.

Things I’m thankful for

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

I got tagged to do this meme so long ago that I don’t remember who tagged me, and I can’t find it now. (If it was you, let me know– I’ll add you in!!) But since you’ve already waited long enough, here are the three (cliche) things I’m grateful for.

1. Friends and family. There are bad apples in every bunch, but by and large I’ve got a good group of people around me. My friends are amazing, online and off.

2. My job. I complain about it all the time, but it’s really not a bad gig. There are much worse things I could be doing, and even though I’m not bringing in a lot of money, I keep my rent paid and my electricity on.

3. My cats. Even though I threaten to beat their little butts at least twice a day, they’re a huge blessing to me. I hate to be one of the cliches and say my cats “saved” me, but I was lonely living here by myself, and on the fast track back into depression before I got them.

Prayers

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

If you’re the praying type, I’d appreciate it if you sent a few this way… or good thoughts if you have them to spare. My mom’s husband had major surgery on Tuesday, and it seems like everytime he starts to do better, another complication arises. Last night, his incision broke open and he went in for emergency surgery. They were only able to close the innermost layer, and they had to leave the rest of it open to heal from the inside out. There is a lot of risk for infection or other complications.
My mom is freaking out… she’s afraid of losing him, and the constant yo-yo-ing of his health is really taking a toll on her. I’m really worried about her.
I hate to be depressing, but I believe in the power of prayer. And I believe in the power of prayer in numbers. Afterall, where two or more are gathered…

Watching the snow fall

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

Here in Indiana, we’ve been getting snow on top of snow on top of snow on top of more snow… you get the idea. I’m getting rather sick of it, to be honest. I’m not a big fan of snow, and haven’t been since I started having to drive in it. Last night, it started snowing again, so I thought I’d get out my digital camera and try to get a video. They were the big fat snowflakes and there were a lot of them. So, for my friends in warmer climates, here’s what we had last night!

and

They are just short 10-20 second clips… So. Who wants to trade weather with me?

Introducing…

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

my nephew, Killian Archer! He was born February 11, 2007 at 5:38 pm. He was 7lbs, 12 oz., and 20.5 inches long. Poor little guy had a rough entry into the world… his heart rate dropped to nothing before they decided to do an emergency c-section, and he wasn’t breathing when he was born. He’s doing well now, and perfectly healthy. We went up to the hospital to meet him last night, so without further ado… Pictures!

I can’t believe my brother has a baby, it’s so surreal. I held Killian for a really long time, and just told him how loved he is. I can’t wait to get to know this little guy and watch him grow up.

Self Portrait Sunday 2-11-07

Here’s my Self Potrait S(mon)day for this week! I’m a day late posting it, but I promise I took the picture yesterday. I was holding out posting it for a really long time in the hopes that I’d be able to get a new nephew picture instead, but he was stubborn. And then I wasn’t home to post this one! Hah!

This is me, fairly fresh out of the shower. My hair’s still wet, and I’m in a robe. Up in the upper left hand corner you can see my highly organized filing system, hehe!

Supahstar Saturday- Loretta

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

[photopress:supahstarsaturday_med.jpg,full,alignleft]My good friend Colleen has started a new meme called Supahstar Saturday that I’ve decided to participate in. Every week, she will feature a blogger, and everyone who is participating writes a post about them. After you’ve featured five bloggers, you yourself become eligible to become a Supahstar! As you may have noticed, I’ve posted this on Sunday. That’s okay with this meme. All Colleen asks is that your post is completed before next week’s Supahstar Saturday.
The first Supahstar to be featured is Loretta. She’s a mother to four boys who are very bright if their report cards are any indication. She’s a good friend who always has good taste in movies. Until recently, she was a third shifter, so we spent many a late night keeping each other company. She’s not working third shift anymore though, so I’m mostly on my own. Except the nights she’s up late because she’s having a hard time adjusting to a different schedule. Some people are just hardcore third shifters, and Loretta seems to be one of them.
Go check her out, she’s a great person, and her blog reflects that!! She’s also good with graphics– the banner you see up there was her work!

Expensive Flowers

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

Why do flowers have to be so dang expensive?? Valentine’s Day is next week… I don’t have a Valentine, but that’s besides the point. I was hoping to send my mom some flowers for the big love day because her husband is in the hospital and won’t be able to. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find anything that is even remotely close to my price range (which isn’t surprising… my price range is pretty low lol). I’m disappointed. Does anyone know of a cheap(er) place to order flowers from?? I don’t want to give up just yet…

RIP Anna Nicole

Friday, February 9th, 2007

I’m sure this is old news for most of you reading this blog, but Anna Nicole Smith died yesterday at age 39. Now, I’m not a big fan of Anna Nicole, but this is just so sad. Her daughter is so young, and now she’ll never know her mother. On the other hand, hopefully now they’ll be able to complete the paternity test, and will be able to solve the paternity of young Dannielynn once and for all.
They’ll be performing the autopsy later today, so we’ll just have to wait to find out what happened.
