Record Bowls

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

I’m always impressed by other people’s ability to do crafty things. I have the desire to be crafty, but not really the ability!! I seem to have a hard time translating the idea in my head to an actual object. One of my friends, on the other hand, can make just about anything she puts her mind to, and it turns out great– from homemade soaps to record bowls. I doubt I could pull it off myself though, so if I want one, I’ll have to buy one. I’m not sure if I like the smooth ones or the stepped ones better… I guess it would depend on what I wanted to use them for. I really like the way they both look, maybe one of each?

Where’s my Sprite?

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

This is sad Jennifer. :( See? Sad. The two people I normally eat lunch with were gone for a funeral today, so rather than sitting in the cafeteria by myself, I took off for lunch. I’ve got mail to pick up from my dad’s house anyways. So I stopped at McDonalds on the way there. I paid extra for a large Sprite to go with my medium meal so that I’ll have some left to bring back to work with me. And then I don’t have to sit here and be thirsty all afternoon! Brilliant plan, huh? Yeah, it would’ve been… if I hadn’t gotten all the way here, and realized as I was walking in the door that my large Sprite that I’d only taken a couple of drinks out of is still sitting on my dad’s dining room table! *tear* So I’m sipping at room temperature water that’s been sitting at my desk all day and thinking longingly of the ice cold carbonated beverage that is languishing on a table across town. My dad’s going to be confused when he gets home from work.

Beef Taco Skillet

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago about my well read cookbook. I’d like to say that I’ve really jumped in and started cooking, but that’s not exactly true. My cookbook has remained closed on the end table. But! Don’t give up on me yet!! I’ve been seeing a recipe for a “Beef Taco Skillet” in magazines… you may have seen it- it’s one of those Campbell’s advertisements. So after work today, I went grocery shopping and picked up all the ingredients. I’m happy to say that it turned out well!

I’m not so happy to say I didn’t really care for it. It was okay. I added some sour cream, but it still seemed to be missing something. I didn’t even save the left overs. If I made it again, I’d definitely change something, but I don’t know what. I think I didn’t like it because I expected it to taste more like tacos, and less like tomato sauce. Maybe make the meat with taco seasoning or something. Ah well, at least I tried!

Self Portrait Sunday 4-15-07

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Okay, I realize it’s Tuesday, but I did take these pictures on Sunday. Cross my heart. I got home so late on Sunday night that I thought “Bed. Will post pictures tomorrow.” Then Monday came, and I was gone ALL day long, and got home after my bed time. Again, tomorrow. So finally, here is Tuesday, and the Self Portrait Sunday post I’ve been promising. To make up for it, you get not one, not two, but three pictures!! I’m amazed week after week that I manage to look so different in the SPS pictures. I always take a series of pictures, and pick the best one to post. This week, I decided to post several from the bunch because I look different in each one of the pictures! I think that blows my mind more than looking different from one week to the next.
So without further ado, my three SPS pictures for the week. Which one do you like the best?

To play along, simply take a picture of yourself every Sunday and post it to your blog. Don’t forget to visit DigiCass and let us all know so we can come SEE you!

Boring Day 4-11-07

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

I’m participating in Colleen’s Boring Day Carnival. The idea is to document a typical day in your life in photographs, and upload them to your blog, with commentary for all to get a little sneak peek into your life. My day is not exactly typical because I had house guests the night I took the pictures, but I end up at their house all the time anyways so it still works. And I should confess now that my A.M. pictures are from a different Boring Morning. But all my mornings look the same so I didn’t think you’d be too upset about it!!

On to my boring day!

My alarm started going off at 5:30, so I hit snooze at least once before deciding to open my eyes.

This cat, Pudge, has been annoying me since 4:30 this morning. Climbing over me, begging for attention.

To Do List

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

I’ve got a to do list that I just keep skipping over…

  • Self Portrait Sunday- the picture was taken on Sunday, but is still in my camera. Hopefully will get it off, resized, uploaded and posted tonight.
  • Boring Day- actually working on this right now. They’re all resized and uploaded, just need to code the entry.
  • Supahstar Saturday- so hopelessly behind, I’ll probably never catch up.
  • Call for information on first time homebuyer’s program- did this yesterday, but she wasn’t in the office. I did leave a message though.
  • Clean the catboxes- they are very scary. The kitties will hate me soon if I don’t get it taken care of!
  • Put laundry away- I did laundry at my mom’s on Sunday. It’s all still folded in the laundry baskets sitting in the laundry room.
  • Wash dishes, clean the bedroom, clean the bathroom, sort/shred junk mail that’s been sitting for ages.

I’m tired already!! Though, I did get one thing crossed off the list before I even finished writing it!! The lady from the homebuyer’s program returned my call and I got the information I needed on that. Now to tackle the rest of the list. When I get home from work, anyways.

Meeting Sindy

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

I had a good day yesterday!! I got up around 9am, showered and putzed around the apartment. About 11am or so, I got a call from Sindy of And To Think…, letting me know she was a half an hour away. It was our first time meeting in person, so I was nervous and excited. Erica and Aiden were coming along, so as soon as they arrived, we hopped in the car and headed off to Hacienda.
We got to the restaurant at just about the same time, and got seated right away. Justine was being shy, and Jeremy was being quiet, but Sindy, Erica and I were carrying on enough for everyone I think. :) We had a good lunch, even though our waitress was…. efficient… to the point of being rude. Sindy paid for lunch for everyone, which was SO nice! (Thanks for that, if I forgot to say so yesterday, by the way!)

Then, Justine was getting antsy to get to Build-A-Bear, so we all piled back into our vehicles and headed over to the mall. I’m really just a big kid, so while we were standing in line, I decided to get a bear of my own. They had a really cute blue and green limited edition bear that had a daisy embroidered on it’s nose and foot. I thought it was a good option to finally get a bear from Build-A-Bear to remember their first visit!!

Of course I had to get a picture of me and my new friend, Justine, and our animals!! And we had to get a picture of the whole group of us. (Well, except Jeremy– he got elected camera man!)

Doesn’t Aiden look like he wants to take that doggy away from Justine? After that we continued shopping at various stores, narrowly avoided causing trouble, and just generally had a good time.
Eventually though, it was time to leave so we took one last picture…

… said goodbye, and promised to do it again soon!
I certainly hope so!! I had such a good time. It was so neat to finally get to meet Sindy, and her whole family was just beautiful inside and out!

Friday the Thirteenth

Friday, April 13th, 2007

That’s today!! (The other Friday the 13th for this year comes in July.) I was always excited by Friday the 13th when I was younger, and I still kind of am. My cousin actually turned 13 on Friday the 13th the one year, and the newspaper came out and took a picture of him standing under a ladder!!
What’s the deal with Friday the 13th anyways? Well, fear of the day is paraskavedekatriaphobia. Say that three times fast!!
There are several popularly held concepts as to where the fear of Friday the Thirteenth originated, some of them being:

  • Judas was the 13th guest at the Last Supper, and Jesus was crucified on a Friday.
  • Adam and Eve ate the apple on a Friday, and Abel was killed on a Friday.
  • The simultaneous arrests of the Knights Templar on October 13, 1307

There are no completely validated historical events tying Friday to the 13th, but the number 13 has historically always been considered unlucky.

Many people who are not usually superstitious become so on this particular day of the year. Are you superstitious about black cats, breaking mirrors, or spilling salt? Share your superstitions with me!! If you have them, of course. :)

Balancing the Checkbook

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

I spent forever and year tonight attempting to balance my checkbook. Something’s not right, but I can’t figure out what it is!! I was comparing my checkbook register to my online bank account. Nothing, nothing… I don’t know where the problem is! Well, I’ll figure it out. I get paid tomorrow though.
Amy, over at WhateverIFeelLike.com has inspired me to get my finances sorted out… she mentioned the whole paying yourself first thing on her blog. I used to pay myself first, but once I moved out, there were so many bills that it kind of fell by the wayside. Having practically zero money in your savings account is never a good thing. So starting tomorrow, I’m paying myself first, and then I’m going to worry about the rest of my bills. I’m going to have a healthy (well, healthier) balance in my savings account for the first time in a long time!!
What about you guys? Do you pay yourself first? Or do you only save money if there’s something left after everyone else has been paid?

I Follow Movement

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

I FollowOver and over today, I’ve been reading in my feed reader about the I Follow Movement. It’s about blogs who have installed a DoFollow plugin to strip the no-follow from comment links. I actually stripped the no-follow from my comments a little while back, so it was a no brainer that I’d join the movement and add a little badge to the sidebar to let you know that I’m Following You! You’ll see my badge just above the Top Commentors over there on the sidebar! So everytime you comment on my blog, there is a valid link to yours left. :)
