Feeding the Baby

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Oh my gosh!! I can’t believe I forgot to come back and blog about this… when I posted about my weekend “away” I just kind of skipped over hanging out at my mom’s on Friday night because she was watching Killian. I did that with the intention of putting it in a post of it’s own, and I never did!!
My mom got to babysit Killian for the first time on Friday night, and she let Erica and I infringe on her. Okay, we weren’t infringing… there were two babies instead of one, so my mom was in seventh heaven. But I got to change one of Killian’s diapers, and boy did he have a doozy of one ready for his Aunt Jennifer the first time she changed him!! I also got to give him his second bottle, ever. (And his third, actually.) He took it really well, and then burped easily for me. He was such a good baby that night… I enjoyed snuggling with him in the rocker. Aiden is at the age that he only wants to be snuggled when he’s almost asleep, and mommy gets that priviledge.

I got a couple of pictures of him too.

He was looking at Aiden in that second picture… I can’t believe how much he is starting to look like my brother!!

Take a Pill

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

That’s what I’ve wanted to tell 75% of the people that have walked through my door this morning. When I got to work about 6:40 this morning, it had been starting to snow. By the time I sorted the mail, got some water from the cafeteria and got back to my desk at 7, it was really coming down. It didn’t let up for 4-5 hours. Weather like that tends to put people around here into bad moods, so they started yelling at me straight out of the gate. People who think that security should personally be out shoveling the walks, despite the fact that our landscaping company was already enroute. Someone who screamed at me over the telephone because they wanted me to take a message that they didn’t have time to leave on a voicemail.

Note to people in general: If you’re asking someone to do something for you, be nice. Yelling will get you nowhere. Yelling gets your message run through the shredder.

Then lunch time rolls around, and they decide they have like 7 people they need badges for… which means my relief has to go back out to the guardhouse so the other guard can come in and make badges. By the time that was over it was about 40 minutes later… by then, it’s pointless to go down to the cafe for lunch– the food that’s left will be mostly icky, and the people I sit with will be almost ready to go back to work! (Did I mention I had to pee for about an hour BEFORE the badge making?) So I trudged out in the nasty, cold, rain/snow and picked up Burger King for Erica and I and spent my lunch break at home. On the positive side, since my lunch was later, I have less of the work day left after that point. I go home in a half an hour! Woohoo!

I was trying to do the Boring Day Carnival today, but I didn’t get early morning pictures, and I haven’t been able to take but one or two pictures all day because I can’t technically have a camera in the building, and I definitely can’t post pictures of anything identifying. But that will be for any day. I went home for lunch, but left the camera here. Oops. Maybe I’ll take pictures from here on out and then supplement with a different Boring Morning… all my mornings look the same anyways LOL

House Guests

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

I’ve got a full house, er, apartment today!! Had a full one last night too. Erica’s gas got shut off, and they can’t get it turned back on until tomorrow, so they obviously couldn’t stay at their house with a 5 1/2 month old baby and no heat!! I offered to let them stay with me because I have a couch with a pullout bed, and an air mattress. They were going to go to her grandma’s and she only has a recliner and a loveseat. No way! It was a little weird this morning because I couldn’t have my usual routine with two people and a baby sleeping in my living room. So it took me a little longer to get my head out of a fog this morning!

My poor kitties. They don’t know what to do with themselves. They’re used to it just being me, and here last night they show up with a bunch of stuff, including a jumper for the baby. Lucy eventually came out, but Pudge won’t. He got so far under my bed that all I could see was his eyeballs. I couldn’t have gotten him out if I needed too!! I think that’s mostly because Steve was there… he’s getting used to Erica. I’ve talked to Erica a couple of times today… she said he’s still hiding in my room, but sometimes on top of the bed instead of underneath it. Lucy has reclaimed her spots in the living room with an attitude of “hey, I live here, I’ll be out here if I want to!” She’s also very interested in the baby. She keeps going up and sniffing him.

I probably won’t be online much tonight because of my house guests. We’ll see! I made jello poke cake last night, so I’m looking forward to getting off work in fifteen minutes and going home and trying it. I’ve never made it before, so we’ll see if I managed to mess up practically the simplest dessert ever. :)

Wall of Babies

Monday, April 9th, 2007

I was just looking at all the pictures I have hung up on my desk when I remembered that I never shared them with you! I know at least once I’ve mentioned that the pictures of my nephews hanging above my computer make me smile when people are being crabby with me. So the one afternoon, I snapped a picture of my desk area with my cell phone (it was the one day, practically ever, that I didn’t have my digital camera). I finally got the picture off my cell phone and uploaded.

On the upper left hand corner you can see the calendars that I made for Christmas this year. There are two because I made one for each side of my family. Then there are the pictures of Aiden and Killian lined up to frame my computer. Also on the desk are my smell-good spray and anti-bac lotion from Bath and Body Works. So there you have it, my space at work!! There’s actually a lot more desk space than just that, but that’s the part that is important. :) You saw some of the rest of it in the daffodil pictures.

Dyngus Day

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Happy Dyngus Day everyone!! If you don’t live in an area with a large Polish population, you’re probably going “huh?” This holiday is on your calendar as Easter Monday. Dyngus Day, also spelled Dingus Day, the day after Easter Sunday, is largely celebrated here in South Bend. It’s a day for Polish food– Kielbasa, noodles, sourkraut, and don’t forget the beer. It’s also the unofficial kickoff to the political season. I don’t really care about the politics, but I might head out after work tonight to find some sausage and noodles. They keep talking about it on the radio and it’s making me hungry!

Most importantly, remember, everyone is Polish on Dyngus Day!

Self Portrait Sunday 4-8-07

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

Happy Easter everyone! Did you have a good day? I had a decent one. We had a family get together this afternoon for the holiday. It was the first holiday since I switched shifts and it was so nice to be able to just sit and enjoy the day and not have to think about how I’m not going to get enough sleep, or be grouchy because I haven’t slept, etc. I had a three day weekend, but I’m still not ready to go back to work in the morning. Ah well, thems the breaks. :) I’m headed to bed as soon as this episode of Lost I’m watching ends.

This is my Self Portrait for today. People last week had good pictures of themselves that they took in a mirror. I’ve never been able to pull it off myself, so that was my goal for this week. To get a picture of myself, in the mirror, that wasn’t blurry, just a flash or a completely retarded look on my face. The smile is a little wonky, but I got the first two!!

Head over to DigiCass to submit your Self Portrait and play along!

What I Like

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

My friend Cass over at DigiCass asked everyone to share a picture of something that we like. I thought about taking a picture of various crochet works in progress. Or a picture of my candles. I even thought about taking a picture of my extensive movie collection. In the end though, I decided to share a picture of one of my favorite people.

That’s a picture of my nephew Aiden who is five and a half months old. There’s nothing better than seeing his face light up when I walk in the room. It’s a joy to see smiles like that one break across his face, especially when they’re meant for you. And when he cries, real tears, it’s enough to break my heart. I was calling him Stitch today and he was laughing. So my picture of something I like is of my chubby cheeked nephew!

Weekend “Away”

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

You may have noticed that there weren’t any posts here over the last two days. I spent an unplanned couple of days away from home! I had Good Friday off of work this year, and Erica and I had plans for both Thursday night and Friday morning/afternoon, so I decided to just pack up my stuff and stay over there for the night rather than driving back and forth.
We left her house about 10:30 on Friday morning to go to lunch, and go shopping, and just out and about around town. We went to my mom’s at 6pm because Ryan and Ash-lee were having my mom babysit for Killian so they could go out and enjoy their one month anniversary– they didn’t do anything special the day they got married. They went down to the courthouse on his lunch break!
By the time we got dinner and back to her house, it was quite late and the weather was deteriorating at a very rapid pace. I still thought about coming home, but Erica didn’t want me to drive home with the roads getting bad so fast, and I decided I didn’t want to either. So I ended up staying there on Friday night as well!! We did a little bit of running around this morning, and I finally made it home about 1:30 or 2pm this afternoon. Now I’m just catching up on internet stuff, watching movies, and relaxing. I’m going to make myself do some cleaning around here in a little while though. It’s not too bad, but there’s definitely some things that need picked up! What I really want to do is take a nap.

My Humps, Alanis Style

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

When I first heard the Black Eyed Peas song, My Humps, I was wondering what the heck I was listening to. It grew on me though… probably because people get this wide-eyed look on their faces when they realize I know all the words. Anyways, I had to laugh when I came across the following video today. Alanis Morissette did a “cover” of the My Humps song in her own style. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Postie Blog Carnival- Food Edition

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

I forgot to post yesterday that this week’s Postie Carnival was held over at Loretta’s blog. She did a really good job putting together the Carnival that was all about food. I entered the post about my well read cookbook. There are a lot of really great entries, but I wouldn’t go over there if you’re hungry. I did that yesterday, and my stomach was growling even more by the time I was done!
