Vacation Day

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

It’s Friday!! Okay, not really, but it may as well have been Friday today. For me anyways! And it really will be Friday in about half an hour. I decided that since I couldn’t have a Kissimmee vacation, the least I could do is take a day off and get myself a three day weekend. It was so nice to have a Friday on Thursday this week!! Plans for tomorrow include going with my mom and my sister-in-law to get Killian’s three month pictures taken, and to lunch. Just a general girl’s day. I’m looking forward to it. Or I would be if I wasn’t so tired… right now I’m tired enough that even though I get to sleep 3 hours later than normal, it still sounds too early! So off to bed for me!

Got Cable?

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

One of my projects for my apartment last weekend, and for the close future is to go bit by bit, and take EVERYTHING out, go through it all, and put it back, only more organized. I started with the front hall closet, entryway, bookshelf and general catch-all table. Those look really nice… but in the process I’ve discovered that I seem to be collecting network cables. Okay, not so much collecting them, but I keep finding more! I don’t know how I managed to amass so many cords and cables, or even what most of them came with originally. All I know is that everything I currently need plugged into something else already has a cable assigned for that use. Hmm… Apparently I need a drawer for spare wires!

Using your schooling

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

One of my coworkers left about a week ago to take a job in his field, and I was reading about it on his myspace blog the other day. It sounds like a really good opportunity for him, especially since he gets to do what he went to school for. It got me to thinking about that. I know my brother went to one of those IT schools 5-6 years ago, and I’m not sure he’s ever done anything with it after that. Not exclusively anyways.
I really can’t talk when it comes to not using my schooling though. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and I am not currently working in an English field. When it comes to that though, I contend that I use my education every day. I read, write and communicate effectively on a daily basis. And I proofread things for my boss. :) So while I’m not in a field that is dedicated to the pursuit of language, I use my education in more subtle ways from day to day. There’s nothing wrong with that in my book!

No Pushups

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Just the other day I was asking people for opinions on exercise videos or fitness programs I could do from the comfort of my living room. I’m still looking for some, by the way, so if you have a suggestion, or a favorite, by all means, let me know! That’s why I found it amusing when I ran across an in-home fitness item I’d probably not be able to use– Rotating Push Up Handles. Not to say I wouldn’t want to, just that I wouldn’t be able to!
Why am I even thinking about push-ups? I was bored about a week ago, and filling out one of those little surveys. You know the ones… “What did you have for breakfast?” “Who was your first crush?” Can you do push-ups? Of course I’m thinking, duh. Not many, but I can do them. So I decided to get down on the floor and check. Uh yeah, just for the record the answer to that question is a resounding NO! I couldn’t get all the way up. Oh well!
