Writing Letters

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Whatever happened to writing letters?? Or emails for that matter? I love, love, LOVE getting mail in my mailbox that isn’t junk or a bill. These days, I’d even settle for an email that was personal rather than spam or some list subscription. I suppose I could count the blog comments that get sent to my email, but that’s not quite the same thing.
I try to write and send letters when I get the chance… I actually just finished sealing the envelope on a letter to a friend from college. I enjoy writing letters, but a lot of time I find that, while they are well received on the other end, the other person doesn’t generally write back. Part of the fun is getting mail in return. I am just as guilty at this though…. I can’t count the number of letters I’ve written that have never made it to the mailbox. Still. I call for a return to mailed correspondence!

Coupon Chief

On Friday, while I was stuck at work, my best friend was out and about shopping. She sent me a text message saying that she wished I was off for the day so that I could go with her to “spend money we don’t have on things we don’t need.” Well, I obviously couldn’t get off to go shopping, so I did the next best thing. I shopped on the internet. I didn’t end up buying anything because I didn’t find anything that couldn’t wait until payday. The delay in ordering anything also gives me an advantage– the opportunity to find and use coupons like the ones at
I was looking specifically for coupons from Old Navy as that’s where I usually order my pants from. My company provides pants for my uniform, but not only are they men’s, they’re uncomfortable and unattractive. So I wear my own pants, which are only available at Old Navy online. The deals that Coupon Chief has seem to be ones you can get without the codes, but I’m going to keep my eye on that page. I have a gift card for Old Navy that I’ll be receiving in the near future, and I want to make it go as far as possible.
In the meantime, I’ll turn my attention to the Big Dog coupons. They’ve got a lot of good deals listed on the coupon page, and I love the Big Dog t-shirts. Something tells me this paycheck isn’t going to go very far! ;)

Manic Monday

Monday, June 4th, 2007

It’s just another manic Monday, I wish it were Sunday…

It was a rough night last night. I felt like I was never going to fall asleep… and then I was wide awake at 1am, and then wide awake again at 4:30. It was almost a relief when the alarm went off this morning. I still hit the snooze button a couple of times anyway, though, just for good measure.

This morning has been rather slow… I arrive at my desk and turn on the phone when the front door unlocks at 7am. My phone didn’t ring for the first time until 9. Then it rang almost nonstop for about ten minutes. And then I had to deal with nasty attitudes. The kind that leave you rolling your eyes and wondering how they got to feel so self-important. And I have to pee. All in all, it’s not boding well for a positive and pleasant day. Gotta love Mondays.

One of the things that is on my wish list for a house, which is currently a problem in my apartment, is lighting. And Central Air, but that’s not what I’m talking about right now. My apartment has almost no built-in light fixtures in the living room (they’re so close to the door that they are useless in lighting the room), and none at all in the bedroom. My bedroom is currently lit by a desk lamp that’s clipped to my bed. How sad is that? I’m “grown up” and living on my own, and I feel like a college student still!
That’s why, when I get a house, I want it to have lots of built in light… I don’t want to have to add floor and table lamps. Choosing to is another thing… They don’t have to be anything fancy like sea gull lighting, or hinkley light fixtures, although they’re both gorgeous. I’ll take cheap fixtures that are just lightbulbs covered in a glass bulb… the fancy fixtures can always come later. Operating my lights with a switch on the wall… that’s all I want!
