Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, and of course to my own father. I had my dad (and his wife) over this afternoon for a delicious meal, if I do say so myself. I made a white chicken parmesan, salad, and cherry cheesecake for dessert. The food was good, but the family was better. Ash-lee even came by with Killian, so I think I played second fiddle to the grandson, but that’s okay. :)
When I was younger, I used to go to work with my dad on Saturdays. This required getting out bed at three o’clock in the morning, but I loved doing it. He fills vending machines, so I got to spend all morning with my dad, eating junk food off his truck, and hearing his stories. Whenever I went with him, so did a bottle of cleaner and paper towels, so I have the suspicion now that I was some cheap slave labor, but I still wouldn’t trade it for anything.
I moved out on my own a little over a year ago, and I don’t see my dad as often as I’d like. This is kind of a recent realization… by the time I moved out, he was driving me insane, but isn’t that what parents are for? He remarried less than a year ago, so I don’t necessarily feel comfortable just dropping in. He doesn’t think I need an invitation. We’ve got some give and take to figure out, but I’m looking forward to building an adult relationship with my dad. The older I get, the more I realize how important family is to me… I want to have relationships with my family, and not just the “highlights”. It’s an interesting transition, that’s for sure.

Happy Father’s Day, Daddy.

I never got to go to work with my dad, but enjoyed once spending a day working with my grandfather roasting coffee adn delivering it to restautants. It was a special “coming of age”" ritual he established with each of his grandkids (I think we wer all six or seven when he took us.) It was such a “grown up” thing!

You should surprise your dad by showing up one morning and going to work with him again!
    Hope y’all had a nice get-together for Father’s Day!

It gives a special bond to see what they do. Glad you enjoyed that with your Dad. I hope the transition with you and his new wife isn’t too hard.

I went to work with my Dad a few times, but never got to help. LOL I did get to play though and have good memories of his offices. Thanks for sharing.
