Lousy Mailman

July 30, 2007 on 7:45 pm | In Footprints | 2 Comments

How many times in the past have I complained about my lousy mailman?? Well, I’m about to do it again. I’m seriously at the end of my patience with this guy. I checked my mail on Friday, and found something that honestly shocked me. And since he’s done a lot of stuff in the past, that’s saying a lot.

That would be the “junk mail”… Kroger ad, coupons, etc. It was wadded up into a ball and shoved in the top of my mailbox. Are you freaking kidding me? How old are you that you get your jollies wadding up mail? Ha, my uncle works for the USPS, so I called him. And will be calling the Post Office. Squish my mail into a ball again, why don’t you? ;)

Intranet Software

July 29, 2007 on 3:19 pm | In Internet | No Comments

Sundays are pretty easy days at work, but trust me, I’d rather spend my Sunday mornings at home being lazy. Going through my Sunday paper, watching movies, and not doing rounds and fighting with the company’s intranet software. Okay, it’s more the filter attached to the intranet that I fight with.
There are definite benefits to an intranet system, from company wide email and instant messaging, to websites only available from a computer on the system. Obviously, there are A LOT more things that you can do with intranet software, but those are pretty much the only things I run into during my work day. Elsewhere in the building, they’re doing training through the programs available, the options are endless. If you’ve got a small business or something similar, and you’re interested in intranet software, check out the link I posted… they’re offering a free 30-day trial.

I picked up an extra shift this morning, so you get a picture of me, in uniform, at work! I managed to forget how filthy those boys are all the time… ew, ew, ew. I had said I wasn’t going to clean up the mess they’d managed to make in 5 months, but I lasted about two hours before I *had* to bust out the cleaning supplies. I don’t know how they do it. I couldn’t work in that disgusting filth for more than two hours, and they’ve been wallowing in it for FIVE MONTHS. Disgusting. Made me sooo thankful for my desk, inside, that is unsullied by dirty boys!

Well, I’m off to DigiCass to check out the rest of the pictures this week, and you should too!

Vacation or Moving

July 29, 2007 on 2:30 pm | In Internet | No Comments

I have never been one to make snap decisions, especially when it comes to big things like moving. But there are always people out there who do make sudden decisions. Not that long ago, I had a friend who’s father-in-law visited a Phoenix Home Rentals office while on vacation. We were all pretty surprised.
They went to Arizona for vacation, came back, packed up their house and moved across the country. I was just considering stay in my college town for a summer, and I debated it for ages and ages. Certainly no up and moving for me… what about you? Would you ever just decide to move across the country on a whim?

Major Bedroom Excavation

July 28, 2007 on 8:10 pm | In Footprints | No Comments

I really haven’t gotten a lot accomplished today, due to a situation that I’m not going to be blogging about right now. I did get a whole lot more done on the major bedroom excavation that I have going on. It’s MY space, and I decided I was going to quit piling crap in there every time that I am going to have company and don’t finish cleaning the living room on time. I drug every single tote and box out into the living room to sort through this week. I also vacuumed, and filled up a HUGE trashbag. Ew. I am sooo mad at myself for letting my bedroom get like that! I was disgusted. Granted, I don’t spend a lot of time in my bedroom, but still… that’s just unnecessary. I still need to take the mattress off the bed so that I can clean out the stuff that’s behind/under it, and flip the mattress and replace the sheets. Then I’ll be able to go through the laundry baskets, and all the stuff on the Papasan chair, and I’ll have a nice clean bedroom and be ready to start putting things in there as I go through the crap that’s now cluttering my living room.

I would have continued working in the bedroom and gotten to that point, but I’d be up working on that pretty late, and I picked up a shift at work tomorrow, so I need to be in bed at a decent time. But that’s the project for when I get home about 3:30 tomorrow! I’m also going to include the hall closet in this excavation project because a lot of the things coming out of the bedroom need to be stored in that closet, which is already a mess!

Best Chicken Salad Ever

July 27, 2007 on 8:54 pm | In Footprints, Learning to Cook | No Comments

I think I might officially be a dork. Why is that?? Well, that would be because I’m a single woman in my early 20s and I spent Friday night with my mom. But I walked out of the situation with a big bowl of the Best.Chicken.Salad.Ever.

Chicken. Crushed Pineapple. Chopped Pecans. Miracle Whip. Croissant. HEAVEN.

I’ve got a ton of stuff I should be doing, like washing the dishes, or taking out the trash that’s starting to stink. I did finally clean the litterboxes (I had to- the smell was about to knock me over!)… I just can’t do much more than that because any decent sized breath I take in makes me cough until I think I’m going to puke. Hopefully I’ll make some progress tomorrow though because, as you can probably tell, I’m behind on the blogging stuff too.

Calling all Microsoft Word Experts

July 26, 2007 on 2:47 pm | In Working Woman | 2 Comments

I’m in serious need of a Microsoft Word expert! I have a project at work, and I have to make mailing labels. Easy enough to do in Word, but I have all of this information already in a spreadsheet! I have figured out how to merge this information to a label sheet *IF* I were using a traditional mailing address format. I, however, am using simply first name, last name, and a mail code. I can get the labels to pull the name, but not the mail code. I will type out all the labels if I have to, but something tells me that someone, somewhere knows how this can be done. If you need more information to help, please let me know, and I’ll explain more.
I really don’t want to have to type out the labels because Word doesn’t seem to be capable of reorganizing the labels (say, if I need to add 3 or 4 employees to the list) at a later date and time. You either add them at the end, or you start over to have your order right. Boo… am I making this too difficult? It’s possible… Word and I have arguments sometimes.

How Cool Are You?

July 26, 2007 on 2:02 pm | In Footprints, Health and Wellness | No Comments

I’ve been doing my own little form of market research the last couple of days, and that’s the question I’ve been asking. Or, how hot are you? There was a blockage in the system (I won’t pretend to know *which* system) that was causing it to be very, very hot in the area where my desk is. There was literally NO air moving. Since I’ve been sick this week, the warmth/mugginess was making feel very nauseous! Of course, those on the other side of the blockage had no control over their A/C either, and they were FREEZING. They would come in here and comment on the warm air and I had to threaten them not to tell me that it felt good in here! Luckily, it’s a more comfortable temperature in here today. I’m feeling much better than I had been, except for the nagging cough, but I couldn’t have handled another too warm day!

Going Wireless

July 25, 2007 on 10:20 am | In Internet | 1 Comment

I’ve really thought about going wireless at home lately. I have a DSL connection, but not a wireless router, so I’m still chained to the desk. I have extra cords of all kinds to fairly easily move from my desk to the loveseat, but it would be more convenient if all I had to do was unplug and move to where ever in the apartment I wanted to be. Especially over this last couple of days, where I’ve been sick and couldn’t really stand to be in the computer chair for very long, but desperately wanted to still be on the computer.

It seems like everyone and their brother has a Linksys router, so they must not be that expensive. How do I know they all have Linksys? Because everytime my computer scans for open wireless connections, almost every time, they come back saying Linksys because noone was original enough to rename their network. For shame. Too bad they are almost all original enough to LOCK their networks. Phooey. ;)

Feeling Better?

July 24, 2007 on 2:24 pm | In Footprints, Health and Wellness | 3 Comments

Since I’ve had a couple of people ask how I was feeling, or tell me they hoped I was feeling better, I thought I’d come over here and let everyone in on the answer! I mentioned in my Self Portrait Sunday post that I had a fever, and wasn’t feeling very well. I still wasn’t feeling great when morning rolled around, but the fever was at around 99.8 or so, and it wasn’t the end of the world, so I figured I could make it. Ha. Ha. Ha.
Yeah… Every morning when I get here, I walk from the lobby to the mailroom, the cafeteria, and then back to my desk. It took entirely too much concentration to stay upright. I just felt worse and worse as the day moved on– a splitting headache and excruciating pain in my lower back. Add to this the cough that I developed about the same time, and I felt like I was coming apart! I went to the nurse here at work, and she came up with a temperature of 102.8, and told me I needed to go home. I relayed my fever information to Gary and his response was pretty much Go. Now. I debated calling the doctor to try and get in, but I really thought I’d sleep a bit and probably feel better. Oh boy, was I wrong! I slept for about 4 hours, and I felt just as wretched when I got back up. I called the doctor and was waiting for them to call me back with advice when I decided that I didn’t want to wait until the next day for treatment.
My mom came and picked me up and we settled on going to the Emergency Room because while it’d take longer, they’d also be more thorough. And my pain-induced fog said PAINKILLERS NOW. Which the medpoint/urgent care wouldn’t have been able to supply so quickly. I was so dehydrated that in order to draw blood for tests, the phlebotomist had to draw from the vein about halfway down my forearm because it’s the first place she could get the vein to pop up. So I’ve got a nice nasty bruise from that. But they put in an IV, and rehydrated me, gave me a painkiller (thank god), and something for nausea. By the end of it, I also got an antibiotic through the IV, and a handful of prescriptions. I was feeling pretty lousy still but enough better that I actually ate some vanilla pudding and part of a turkey sandwich before we left the ER at about 10pm.
I’m feeling… okay today. A little bit of lingering back pain, but if it weren’t for this wretched cough, I’d *almost* say good. Not quite though. In any case, the fever was back down to 99.8 this morning, and I came to work. I probably would have been better off at home relaxing, but I figured I’m not contagious and I can’t afford to miss the work… I also scheduled a pick-up shift for this weekend to make up for the extra shift I was supposed to pick up yesterday before I got sick.
So all that to say, I’m doing better… and I’m armed with painkillers and antibiotics so it’s getting better all the time.
