A little while ago, I discovered a new (to me anyways) website, called Thoof.com. Thoof will customize their site to fit you, and your interests. When I log on to Thoof, the stories that I see may be completely different than the stories that you see on your front page. And hopefully, they will be ones of interest to me. I’ve never seen any news website that would customize my page every time I read a new story. If you ask me, personalized news is a good thing. I don’t like having to sift through all kinds of stories that I don’t care about.
Another great feature is that after submitting a story to Thoof (you can find both my Movie Project, and my How To Make a Fried Bologna Sandwich tutorial on their website), you are given a nifty little badge to show your Thoof Rank. It looks something like this:

When I got that badge, it said 1%. I’m interested in seeing how it changes.

But honestly, what I’m really interested in is why they decided to name the website Thoof. Here’s my theory… When deciding to launch the site, the creators were sitting in a meeting brainstorming ideas. Well, one person decided that the name of the site should be something long, and hard to remember like Theonlypersonalizednewswebsiteyou’lleverneed. dot com. In his excitement, he ran to tell everyone what he was thinking. “Guys, guys, I’ve got it! The name of our new website should be The–” but then…. he tripped. “Oof!” Instead of the fabulous name he’d come up with, all his colleagues heard was Th-Oof! as he hit the ground. As it happens, noone ever got to hear his first idea because the name Thoof stuck!

And there you have it… how Thoof got their name.
