Bento #1

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

I finally made my first bento on Sunday for work. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to test it out because if something wasn’t right, or if it wasn’t enough food, I had the opportunity to run out and get something else to eat. That’s not always an option during the week! Without further ado, my first bento:

Bento #1

The bottom tier is flower shaped peanut butter sandwiches. I had pickles in a small container on the side for these… I can’t do regular peanut butter sandwiches, but I tried originally with my butterfly cutter and PB&J, and well, the butterflies just looked like they had headwounds. Then we have cheese and crackers.
The top tier has cheesecake filling, grapes, and teddy grahams.

I actually ate this bento in two different sittings, which ended up working out pretty well. If I’d wanted to eat it all at once, it definitely would have been too much cheese and crackers. But not bad for my first bento, if I do say so myself. I think every bento I pack will teach me a little bit… like this one I learned to pack half the cheese and crackers and put veggies or something in the rest of that space!

Locket

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

I’ve got the prettiest locket in my possession, and I truly wish it was for me!! It’s a birthday present for my friend, Janette, though, and I know she’ll love it, so I’m trying to get over my heart break. (It was originally meant to be for me, but since I didn’t get the picture I wanted in the locket, I’m giving it away.) Her birthday is not for another couple of weeks so it’s been burning a hole in my pocket, so to speak. I know she doesn’t read my blog though, so I’ll share it with you guys instead of making you wait too!

This is the outside:
Locket Outside

Sorry for the quality– it was really hard to get a picture of!! And the inside:
Locket Inside

That’s a picture of Aiden, Janette’s grandson. It’s my favorite picture that I’ve taken of him. The folks at PicturesonGold.com actually put that picture in the locket with a laser etching, so it’s completely waterproof. It’s came out sooo nicely. I was so afraid it would come out looking cheap, but that was not the case at all. I was also impressed by the amount of customizations available… I’m very happy with how this locket turned out, so I’m bookmarking PicturesonGold.com until I have some extra money. I really want a locket for myself! My spending money is tapped out on the bed set I mentioned in the last post. Though, if anyone is feeling generous, my birthday IS on Saturday. ;)

New Bed Set

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

I am currently in the market for a new bed set. The one that I had last was cheap, and did not hold up. It wasn’t really my style either, so while it was cute, and I did like it, I was ready for a change rather quickly. I’ve got a decent amount of overtime on the paycheck that comes on Friday, so I’ve decided it’s time to get a new set. Besides, I’ve trashed the old one and I have just a worn-out sheet on my bed at the moment, and that’s got to go.

I didn’t realize how hard it would be to pick a new bed set though! I had a particular brand in mind when I started looking, but I found that they no longer carry the line I used to like, and that they’ve raised the prices. Since I was no longer interested in that, the search was on. I’m still very undecided, but I’ve found a couple that I like. The one I’m really leaning towards is Tranquil Flowers at JC Penney.

You can be sure, whatever I end up getting, that I’ll take a picture and blog about it! ;)

Dentist, Again.

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

I had every intention of posting again yesterday, but then again I had the intention to do a lot of things. What I did was go to the dentist after work. Again. Before my appointment in June, I hadn’t been to the dentist in about two years. DON’T EVER DO THIS. Because of this, there was a lot of decay and issues with my teeth. I’m now on my third additional appointment for fillings and what have you, with at least one more to go.
It’s not fun to go straight from work to the dentist, and get a nice numb mouth. Then of course, you go home and you and your nice numb mouth sit and watch TV because seriously? What else do you want to do when you can only feel half your tongue? And you will sit and be very hungry, and not be able to do anything about it. How can you attempt to eat something when half of every drink of water you take dribbles down your chin.
Repeat after me: I will go to every six month checkup. I will go to every six month checkup. I will go to…

Frogs Everywhere

Monday, August 13th, 2007

In cleaning out my bedroom over the last couple of weeks, I’ve discovered that I have a lot of stuffed animals, all frogs of course (and one heffalump lol). I really don’t need any more stuffed frogs as they don’t go on my bed, and I don’t have any more room to put them, but that website I linked has such cute ones! I collect frogs, but the little figurines are much easier to find room for than a bunch of stuffed ones. Right now the stuffed frogs are on top of the bookshelf in my bedroom, but that’s currently full. I have two HUGE stuffed frogs that will be going in the garage sale in September. It makes me sad, but I don’t have room for them. And I’m de-cluttering. Yes. It’s a good thing. (Am I convinced yet?)

Good Paycheck

Monday, August 13th, 2007

I’ve mentioned that I’ve picked up an extra shift or two over the last couple of weeks. Since Friday is payday, I finally sat down to figure out what I’d worked. Yep, no financial consolidation software needed this week. On this paycheck will be 80 regular hours, and 29.5 hours of overtime. And! Most of the bills aren’t due until the next paycheck. Woohoo! It actually works out perfectly since I’m ready to buy myself a new bedset, and I have the bill for the ER visit due any minute now, plus the dentist that I already owe money and will be visiting again this afternoon. Yay for some much needed breathing room this month!

Did you know?

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Did you know that mesothelioma is a type of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos? I didn’t. In fact, until today I had never heard of mesothelioma. The bad news is that, like all other cancers, there’s no cure, but there are Mesothelioma treatments available. It’s sad to me because just think about how many people were regularly and routinely exposed to asbestos before someone figured out it had serious repercussions to your health? It’s everywhere. Just recently, they demolished a very old, long standing building on my college campus because it would cost too much to remove the asbestos, and repair the damage to the building. There is also a section of tiles in the building where I work that they can’t remove because of the asbestos in them. Scary.

Me, at the end of a long day! Okay, the day isn’t over yet, but I’m probably going to go to bed early tonight, so it may as well be. I picked up an extra shift for the third week in a row. Sundays are easy though. It’s quiet, and there’s not much to do. I usually pick up one of the rounds too, so I got a little bit of walking in. And my mom dropped by with Killian so I got to see him, if only for a little bit. :)

As always, visit DigiCass to see who else played along. Play with us, won’t you?

Ice Cream for a Cause

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Are you going to be visiting your local Dairy Queen today? If not, you should be. Today (August 9th) is Miracle Treat Day. Dairy Queen has teamed up with the Children’s Miracle Network. Dairy Queen will be donating all of the proceeds from the sale of blizzards today to the Children’s Miracle Network. (Proceeds are the sale price minus the cost of ingredients.) If that doesn’t sound like the perfect reason to go get some ice cream, I don’t know what is. I’m going to swing by DQ on my way home from work– I’m just trying to decide what flavor I’d like.

Visit the Miracle Treat Day page to see if there is a participating Dairy Queen in your area. If there is, please go buy a blizzard! The kids, and your tummy will thank you!

I’m a Pirate, Arr…

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

I have a new way to waste time at work. That would be the Pirates application on Facebook. It’s actually ridiculously simple, and kind of stupid, but I keep playing anyways. I’m currently a Level 17 Barbary pirate, which means nothing to you if you are not also a Facebook Pirate. Though, if you want to be– let me know, and I’ll recruit ya! Each “day” is one hour, so I have about 10 more minutes before I can do anything else with my pirates. It’s a sickness.

Also amusing me is watching my Feedburner count jump up and down. I think something’s not quite right there. Maybe it’s just me, but I highly doubt 5 people are subscribing and unsubscribing every day.
