College Search
September 30, 2007 on 12:08 pm | In Internet | No CommentsOne thing I don’t miss about college is looking for one!! My friend’s sister-in-law is a senior in high school this year, and she’s looking at what college she might like to attend, from Gibbs Melville to my Alma Mater. Obviously, that’s where I’m encouraging her to look. ![]()
I don’t miss looking though… trying to choose a college was seriously stressful. I had been planning on going to the local Christian college, but I just wasn’t sure. They weren’t offering what I originally planned to study. I was already in, and planning on attending when I decided to apply to another school just to “see if I could get in.” Well, they accepted me too, and then I had to make a very difficult decision. In the end, I decided to go two and a half hours away, where I would know noone. Had I stayed local, I would have been in school with many people I went to church and to high school with. I can’t say I didn’t second guess my decision a few times, and sometimes I still wonder if I made the right choice. I went to an excellent school though, and it was ultimately very, very good for me to be away from home, out of my comfort zone for awhile. Good life experiences.
Bento Accessories
September 30, 2007 on 10:12 am | In Bento | No CommentsYou know, I don’t know how people who have a TON of bento accessories find the places to STORE all of them! I have a handful of bento boxes, and a few accessories– sauce bottles (I’ve never used), cupcake liners, cookie cutters. But they were still taking over the top of my fridge. Yesterday though, I decided to clean the kitchen… never did finish… but I did find the perfect thing for Bento tool storage! I had a Dr. Pepper lunch box on top of my fridge that I had forgotten about. I got it down, cleaned it off, and stocked it up with all of those accessories. They fit perfectly, and now I have room on top of my fridge for other things. Yay!
Self Portrait Sunday 9/30/07
September 30, 2007 on 9:50 am | In Footprints, Self Portrait Sunday | 4 Comments
Today is the last day of September. The. last. day. of. September. How freaking crazy is that?! I can’t believe that… I don’t know where this year is going, but it’s zipping by so fast! BUT I love Halloween, so I’m not overly disappointed about October. I’ll have to go dig through my storage closet soon to find the few Halloween decorations that I do have.
Visit DigiCass to see who else is participating this week, and probably less freaked about the end of the month than I am!
Tumors and Bad News
September 29, 2007 on 10:57 am | In Footprints | No CommentsI had my blog open most of the night yesterday trying to come up with something witty to say about drug rehabs. It just wasn’t going to happen, so I eventually closed the blog and went and did other things. We found out yesterday that one of my cousins has a very large tumor in her abdomen, and she is only 20 years old. She’ll be talking to her doctor on Monday about what to do from here, surgery/treatment-wise, but in the meantime, everyone is very upset and very scared.
When I need to think, I drive. So I closed my blog, ignored my exercise tape, and went to put gas in the car. I spent about an hour driving around town before I got tired enough that I had to come home. My head’s in a little better place this morning, but I’m still praying just as hard as I can.
Parking Lot Woes
September 27, 2007 on 7:33 pm | In Working Woman | No CommentsOh my… it’s been a FUN couple of days at work. They decided to re-do the parking lot at work. As far as I knew, the plans were to close the parking lot this weekend and do the majority of the resurfacing, and then operate continuing on from there as needed starting on Monday. Well, yesterday they showed up and decided they were taking the curbs out. So we spent about an hour tracking down about 25 people to get them to move their cars. And tracking them down again because they didn’t show up. And paging them 34 times because we can’t get a hold of them at all.
Today they started doing some digging. I’m not sure what for, but the plans make no sense to me anyways LOL Poor Ron had to stand at the end of one of our two drives for almost two hours to direct people to the second drive while they did their digging. Gar had a 11-12 hour day today, and probably another one tomorrow.
And the employees? They’re a bunch of WHINERS! I can’t wait until the major upheaval on Monday so I can listen to them all complain. Yes, it sucks, but get over it… it’s going to last a few days, and be done. Then you won’t have to park in B.F.E., but noo… nobody understands that. All they can see is the small inconvenience now.
Exercise and Taco Bell?
September 26, 2007 on 3:51 pm | In Health and Wellness | 1 CommentIs it wrong to complete day number four of my new exercise plan, and then go pick up dinner at Taco Bell? I’ve been thinking about what I have to make dinner at my apartment (or don’t have, as the case may be), how messy my kitchen is, how many other things I need to do (put laundry away, do more laundry, did I mention laundry?)… the more I think about it, the better having Taco Bell for dinner sounds. I’ll do the exercise DVD first and work up an appetite. How does that sound?
Comments Fixed?
September 25, 2007 on 8:46 am | In Blog Stuff | 1 CommentThanks for hanging in there with me guys– I believe my comments are fixed now. I spent a good portion of my night last night trying various fixes to no avail… and scouring the Wordpress support forums for possible solutions. I ended up going to bed a little sad that my blog was still broken. I was beginning to think the fix was going to require something drastic. I finally found something in a support forum this morning that led me to (I think) find the problem. I’ll still be holding my breath until I get a comment from someone other than myself though!
Broken Comments
September 24, 2007 on 3:16 pm | In Internet | 5 CommentsI don’t know what changed, but my comments over here seem to be broken. I think I may know what the problem is, but I can’t access FTP from where I’m at. As soon as I get home, I’ll be trying to make that change. Hopefully it works because I’ll be clueless if it doesn’t! So hang in there, I’ll hopefully be up and running by tonight, please come back and make your comments!
Welcome to Fall
September 24, 2007 on 7:57 am | In Internet | No CommentsIt’s now officially fall, have you started planning your caribbean cruises yet? In just a couple of months, you are going to really wish you had… or you will if you don’t already live in a part of the country that stays warm.
Around here, it probably won’t get cold, cold for a little while yet, but we’ll probably spend the next month or so switching back and forth between A/C and heat. I keep waiting for the days where I can shut the air off and open the window, and there have been a couple so far. But mostly it just gets too hot, and I have to turn the air back on. It won’t be too much longer and I’ll wish it were warm enough for air conditioning.
High Turn Over
September 24, 2007 on 7:32 am | In Working Woman | No CommentsSometimes it seems like there is a revolving door around here. This is especially true right now for the company we’re placed at. About 10 people just retired on Friday, and they did a “move up” in the rest of the building for this morning. I wonder if they have any type of succession planning in place, or if they’re just flying by the seats of their pants when the changes come. Given the amount of temps coming in, I’m going to go with the latter.
My boss has a different type of succession planning… he’s not looking at employees to see who will be promoted, he’s looking to see who to replace you with when you quit (or get fired). A little unsettling, but I don’t blame him. In Security, when thing happen, they happen fast and you can’t leave spots unfilled. We go through phases… sometimes we go for long stretches when noone is leaving. Then it seems like everyone leaves at the same time. We’ve got a core group of people who are here for the long haul, but every one else could decide to leave at any time. Which group do I fit in? I’m not sure… I never thought I’d be doing this, and I don’t want to be doing this forever and ever, amen, but I don’t really have plans to move on any time soon. Unless something falls in my lap, of course. ![]()
