Self Portrait Sunday 10-7-07

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

I had a hard time getting a picture where my smile didn’t look completely strained and fake. I think I finally managed it though! Still feeling slightly off from the heat yesterday, so other than my scheduled workout I didn’t really do a whole lot today. I picked up a few things, cooked lunch and dinner, and spent the rest of the day watching movies on the couch. There’s one playing right now, actually, but I’m thinking about posting this and going to bed.

Before I go though, I’ll head over to DigiCass to see the other Self Portraits from this week.

Cashiers Shouldn’t Be Baggers

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

Increasingly, I’m getting annoyed with the cashiers at my local grocery store. See, they used to have baggers. A couple of years ago, however, they had an outside consultant come in and tell them how to cut corners. So out went the baggers, and in came little bagging carousels. Now the cashiers scan and bag at the same time. Here’s the problem– they didn’t teach the cashiers HOW to bag. If you buy two kitchen sinks, I promise you, they will cram them in one bag. They will put your ground beef in the same bag as your bread. They will bag your raw chicken with your produce. They will also cram so many things in the same bag that it requires two hands because you can’t get the handles to close together anymore. Yeah, I have a second floor apartment, that’s just not going to work for me. Some of them have a basic grasp of bagging, but the majority just shoves everything wherever they feel like it.

My biggest pet peeve? I’ll be very careful to put all of my refrigerator/freezer stuff together on the conveyor belt…. and then the cashier will reach AROUND my cold things to bag my cheese with my shampoo.

Local Grocery Store, I’m begging… please train your cashiers! An extra day in that 4 day orientation I know you have won’t kill you.

Online Craft Club: Hook Holder

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

I know I’m a couple days late, but I hope that’s okay. Especially since I forgot the last two entirely. It doesn’t help that I hadn’t hardly been crafting at all over the last couple weeks. Not only did I start something last week, I finished it. What you see there is a crochet hook holder that I made for my mom. I have one of my own, and my mom’s been wanting one ever since I made mine…. about 3 years ago probably! So she asked me for one, and I finally made it.
Below you can see what it looks like rolled up. I couldn’t find the hook I wanted, so I had to use a different one, so this project gave me fits. I started with the pattern, and eventually had to just make it up to get it to be big enough to fit the hooks. Worked out in the end though, and mom likes it!! I want to (find my hook and) make a few more of them.

Okay, I’m off to see what everyone else has been crafting this week!
