Increasingly, I’m getting annoyed with the cashiers at my local grocery store. See, they used to have baggers. A couple of years ago, however, they had an outside consultant come in and tell them how to cut corners. So out went the baggers, and in came little bagging carousels. Now the cashiers scan and bag at the same time. Here’s the problem– they didn’t teach the cashiers HOW to bag. If you buy two kitchen sinks, I promise you, they will cram them in one bag. They will put your ground beef in the same bag as your bread. They will bag your raw chicken with your produce. They will also cram so many things in the same bag that it requires two hands because you can’t get the handles to close together anymore. Yeah, I have a second floor apartment, that’s just not going to work for me. Some of them have a basic grasp of bagging, but the majority just shoves everything wherever they feel like it.
My biggest pet peeve? I’ll be very careful to put all of my refrigerator/freezer stuff together on the conveyor belt…. and then the cashier will reach AROUND my cold things to bag my cheese with my shampoo.
Local Grocery Store, I’m begging… please train your cashiers! An extra day in that 4 day orientation I know you have won’t kill you.
