Happy Birthday, Mom!
Footprints January 2nd, 2008I’m getting ready to turn in for the night, but before I go, I have to tell the whole world that today is my mom’s birthday! And trust me, I told EVERYONE.
When people sign into the guest book at work, they always ask me what the date is. One guy says, “Is it the second or the third?” And I said, “It’s the second.” So of course, he insists that it must be the third (boys.) and my response was, “It’s the 2nd. It’s my mama’s birthday, I should know.” Hehe! I won’t tell you how old she is because she reads my blog, but Happy Birthday Mom!
So work was interesting today. By that you can read so boring I thought the day would never end. The roads weren’t too bad on the way to work. Don’t get me wrong, it was still nasty, but not quite the end of the world, snow drifts in the middle of the road the newscasters would have you believe. Even though it hardly snowed during the day today, the conditions were much worse on the drive home, mainly because of the traffic. I live between 5-10 minutes away from where I work, and it took me about 40 minutes to get home today. Traffic was crawling so slowly, it wouldn’t even register on my speedometer (lowest notch on my speedometer is 10 MPH). It always amazes me how many people don’t know how to drive in the snow. I’m sorry, if there is a layer of snow and ice under your tires, it doesn’t matter if you have chrome Corvette wheels, or a big SUV with four-wheel drive. Slow down, pay attention, and for goodness sake, hang up the cell phone! My absolute favorite though had to be the dummy in the pickup truck who, while sitting in a line of traffic going back for ages on a pretty bad road decided to just throw it in reverse and make people go around him while he went backwards in the lane! Like the weather doesn’t cause enough accidents!
It’s snowing again, so I’m just hoping it doesn’t snow too much overnight. I’d like to see them be able to get the snow OFF the road at some point! I know I HAVE to go to work, and I usually stay in on weeknights, but I like to feel like I CAN go out if I want to! Ah well, winter won’t last forever! For now, I’m going to head to bed and read for awhile.

Happy birthday! And I agree–people do drive too crazy on the snow!
