Oops!

April 27, 2008 on 9:00 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

So I was all ready to share my Self Portrait Sunday with you, and I’d even figured out a clever way to work in my link for Dodge Charger accessories, but it just wasn’t meant to be. See, when I was cleaning out unused files and programs from my computer, I made a mistake. I meant to remove the software for my dad’s digital camera, but I actually deleted my own! Oops!

Needless to say, when I plugged my camera in to the computer to download pictures, it didn’t work. I’d completely forgotten. Now I can’t be bothered to dig out the CD to reinstall tonight, so maybe you’ll get my picture tomorrow. Right now I’m too busy watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to be bothered looking for the camera CD.

Computer Stuff

April 26, 2008 on 10:46 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

I’m probably going to head to bed before too much longer, but I didn’t want to let another day go by without making a post here! I had every intention of posting on Thursday night, but when I got home my internet had mysteriously crapped out. I had been roped into having dinner with my grandmother (on my dad’s side), so I basically changed and was back out the door. I messed with all the settings on my computer after I got home, but the problem turned out to be with the DSL itself, so no matter what I did, my internet just wasn’t going to come back on.

Friday, I just had other things to do! I’d been having some issues with my computer (other than the pooped out internet), so I spent a good amount of time just clearing out files that I don’t need, uninstalling programs I’ve never used or haven’t used in two years. It made some improvement, but I think some more laptop memory would really help. I don’t know though… Dells kind of have a reputation for crapping out after their warranties expire, and my 3 year warranty expires in June. Hopefully that doesn’t happen!

Today I haven’t been as productive as I would have liked, but I got a walk in early this morning, a nap, and spent some time playing with Killian, so I’m going to call it good! :)

Secretary’s Day

April 23, 2008 on 8:03 pm | In Footprints | 2 Comments

I have the bestest best friend in the world!! Today is Secretary’s Day, or as it’s more politically correctly now known as Administrative Professionals Day. Apparently it’s actually a week thing. But the company bought flowers for all the admins in the building and had them delivered on Monday. Since I don’t technically work for the company, I work for the security company, there were 20 vases of flowers, and nothing for me. I knew better than to expect anything, but I was still kind of bummed.

But then! About 7:20 this morning, my best friend Sarah walked in the lobby door and handed me this:

She said she wanted to make sure somebody acknowledged me. It was sooo sweet, and it totally made my entire day! So of course I had to share with all of you what an amazing best friend I have!

Ratty Doormat

April 22, 2008 on 9:16 pm | In Around the House | 6 Comments

I came home from work this afternoon to find a surprise in front of my apartment door, and the following letter:

April 22, 2008 (Earth Day)
Jennifer,

Your frog has been mentioned by the people who clean our lobbies as the most deteriorated mat at (apartment complex). I said I had thought of buying you a new mat, but thought that there must be some sentimental value. I looked for another frog, but didn’t find one. I hope you like the cats. Maybe the frog could be made into a wall hanging? As I write, it’s been some time since I’ve seen it, but it seems to me the problem was more with the backing than the top side.

Uncle Jim

Accompanying this letter was a new door mat with cats on it, which I didn’t get a picture of. Hmmm… I don’t know what the problem was with my old door mat…

Okay, so maybe it was time to give up the ghost, but there WAS some sentimental attachment to it. Even I had to admit that it was time, and since my uncle (who is also a maintenance man here) went out of his way to buy me a new one I felt like I couldn’t put it off any longer. I could have pulled off the backing that has managed to come loose, but the rug was much worse off than even the picture does justice.

I thought about holding on to it for awhile longer, but I just couldn’t justify it, not when I’m trying so hard to weed out all the extra junk I’ve held onto for years. Even as I’m writing this though, there’s a small twinge that makes me wish I hadn’t… it’s just a rug. It’s just a rug. It’s just a rug. *small sigh* :)

I had so much fun giving away prizes during the last Bloggy Giveaways that when I discovered that the spring version had gone live, I knew I had to participate again.

Geocaching

April 21, 2008 on 8:37 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Have you ever been geo-caching? I haven’t been, but it sounds like something that would be fun to do. It is where you use a gps tracking device to find caches that other people have left behind. I have a friend who has been doing this lately, and I think she said they found a cache in a graveyard next to a church, and there is so much activity there that the person who left it there originally won’t even go inside the fence anymore. Spooky!

In any case, I don’t really need a GPS device to go geo-caching and find things other people have left behind– I need it to MYSELF. I’m really good at getting myself lost… I wish On-Star was available in more than just GM vehicles because I am a prime candidate for needing their services, but I’m not willing to give up my Honda. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten myself turned around, or Sarah and I have been out driving around and found ourselves on some abandoned, creepy one-lane dirt road. It would have been very nice to push a button and have someone help us get home rather than us trying to figure it out on our own. Cause we have overactive imaginations, and trust me when I tell you we were well and truly freaked out by the time we found the highway!

Who turned the lights on?

April 21, 2008 on 7:24 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments

To counteract my not so great last entry (cause really, a spider in my raisin bran is just disgusting), I thought I’d share that I’m really excited that Spring finally seems to be here. Not just because I’ve been able to wear just my light jacket for about a week straight without having to zip in the fleece liner every other day, or that I haven’t had to scrape a layer of frost off of my car either. It’s because someone finally turned on the outdoor lighting. Which is just my tongue-in-cheek way of saying it’s finally almost light out when I’m driving to work in the morning. We were almost there before Daylight Savings Time set us back a month or so. I love that it’s basically light out by the time I land at my desk in the morning. It was always kind of depressing to spend an hour or more looking out at a pitch black parking lot… so I’m glad the sun’s finally coming up earlier in the morning, but I still wish Ditch Mitch Daniels hadn’t put us on DST to begin with.

Two Scoops of Raisins…

April 21, 2008 on 7:09 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments

… and a spider? Probably not, but that didn’t keep me from being really grossed out this morning when I went to dump the extra milk in my cereal bowl out in the sink. I know, I’m bad, I waste the milk. When I ran the water, and it’s mixing with the milk in the sink, I’m noticing a spider swirling around. I’m really hoping he was in the sink already, and not swimming around in my cereal bowl for me to narrowly miss with my spoon. Ew, ew, ew! Needless to say, I sent him to the Branson resorts in the sky… aka that’s one dead spider. I’m sure he was in the sink, I would’ve seen him in my cereal bowl, but just the thought of that? I’m beyond grossed out.

Self Portrait Sunday 4/20/08

April 20, 2008 on 9:05 pm | In Footprints, Self Portrait Sunday | 3 Comments

SPS 4/20/08

Sunday again? Already? Man, this week just flew right by! Here’s a picture I took of myself earlier this afternoon. You can see part of my movie collection there behind me. And I just noticed that the stacks on top of the shelf are crooked, and that’s going to drive me insane until I fix it. I can be selectively OCD!

I made a whole lot of progress sorting through everything in the apartment this weekend. It’s amazing how much stuff I found that I forgot I even had! Unfortunately no Rolex Submariner hiding in the boxes, but I did find about a hundred spiral notebooks, an electronic dear diary from 8th grade, and lots of sidewalk chalk.

I am now at the point where it’s very slow going, and I feel like I’m not making very much progress. Not because there’s a huge mess, but because I’m down to all kinds of things that I just don’t know what to do with! Over the course of the weekend, I got to mark the bathroom, the kitchen, and the front closet off the list though. Slowly but surely… hopefully by the end of the week, I’ll have a fully reclaimed apartment. You know I’ll keep you posted on that end.

For now, though, it’s almost time for bed, so I’m going to go to Midlife Musings and see the rest of the self portraits this week, and then I’m off to dreamland!
