Starting Early

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

I doubt anyone noticed, but I quietly added my 101 Things in 1001 Days list to the site yesterday. I had originally intended to start my project on my birthday which isn’t for another month or so, but I have the majority of the list in place and #28 is to revisit the goals at least once every 6 months. I decided there is no reason not to get started since the list is mostly done, and I have permission to revisit and revise it anyways.

If you look over my list, you’ll see there are some serious goals on there, and a whole lot of silly things as well. I’m already planning how to complete several of them. Like #17 Take a Roadtrip. Sarah and I are talking about trips we might like to take. We’re talking about anything from driving to Virginia (the more traditional road trip route) to flying out for one of those Vegas vacations. It will all depend on what kind of money we end up saving for that purpose, I guess, seeing as we both have some financial goals as well!

I just threw up the list quickly, so I’ll be going back through to update the things that are/will be in progress, and put a little more explanation up on the page. Given #11, I’ll keep you posted. ;)

Throwing away Money

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

One of my coworkers just bought one of those total body home gyms, and I really wanted to tell her that she’s just throwing away her money, but I didn’t. But she saved $300 on it! I don’t know, maybe she’ll prove me wrong and show up for work in a year and be totally buff, but it just doesn’t usually work that way. For most people, purchasing exercise equipment is the same as buying an overpriced clothing rack. Sure, she might use it for a few weeks, but I’m betting that it will stop being used long before she gets enough use out of it to justify the money she spent. Ask me how I know… there may or may not be dusty fitness DVDs and equipment languishing in my apartment.

Blind as a Bat

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

It’s no secret that I wear glasses. You guys see a picture of me every Sunday (or almost every Sunday) and I’ve got spectacles on my face. For a few years in high school and college, I wore contacts, but I ended up having problems with the contacts irritating my eyes and would have to leave them out for about two weeks before I could wear them again. I got to the point where I just didn’t care anymore and just wore my glasses full time. Most of the time, I’m happy with that, but every once in awhile I start thinking about something like Lasik again. Like on Saturday. Saturday, Sarah and I went over to my dad’s to use his pool… I always wish I had better vision when I’m swimming because I may as well be blind without my glasses on, and lets face it– swimming with eyeglasses just isn’t practical. I haven’t seriously considered lasik for a couple of reasons… one being the cost, and the other being I’m just a worrier, and I can’t help but wonder about the long term effects. If there is a horror story to be found, don’t worry, I’ll find it.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Just stopping by real quickly to let you all know that today is my Dad’s 51st birthday! I’m sure you care too, right? I’ve already got his present, and I have a birthday card at home, I just have to find it! (I bought it last year, and subsequently lost it before his birthday.) Then it’s off to dinner at Outback Steakhouse, where I can hopefully find something to eat that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg!

Self Portrait Sunday 7/6/08

SPS 7/6/08

I had every intention of having a wonderful, new and exciting self portrait this week. Something with me in the sun, and the beautiful blue lake in the background… and then I spent the morning emptying my stomach off the back of the boat. My camera ended up down below and I wasn’t going to go down after it with my stomach rolling the way it was. So no lake picture… instead you get the same old picture, me in my living room like most other weeks! :)

Right now I’m watching whatever movie happens to be on TV, during which every other commercial is one about sending your gold bangle, and silver jewelry in for cash. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m a little leery of sending my jewelry off in the mail just hoping you’ll send me cash back… I’m trying to get motivated to get up and do something productive. I’ve already been out running errands this morning, but I need to finish putting groceries away. I took care of the fridge and freezer stuff as soon as I got home, but everything else is just sitting on the living room floor. Wouldn’t hurt to do the dishes either, and find lunch.

I suppose I ought to get started… won’t be doing too much today though. My muscles are already sore, and I would like to be able to get out of bed tomorrow morning lol Don’t forget to check out Midlife Musings to see beautiful Cass this morning, and everyone else who has chosen to participate.

Happy Independence Day

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Happy 4th of July to all of my fellow Americans! I hope this finds you all still SAFE and healthy after the Independence Day festivities. I’m home from all of mine, and I would dearly love to be in bed right now as my day started at 5am this morning. As it is, even as tired as I am, there is still way too much booming going on outside to even bother trying to sleep… it would be a waste of time.

My day started out heading up to Lake Michigan to get on the sailboat with Dad, Gloria, Ryan, Ash-lee and Killian. I was really looking forward to it, and it should have been great fun. Which I’m sure it WOULD have been if I hadn’t gotten nauseous about an hour in and spent most of the rest of the morning hanging off the back of the boat. The last hour or so before we made it back to the river was spent face down on one of the seats because if I sat up any further than that, I got sick again and there was nothing left to throw up! Of course, I was fine by the time we got back to the slip and was eating potato chips in the car on the way home.

By the time the family cookout rolled around with my mom’s side of the family, I was starving. Understandably, since the only thing that actually STAYED in my stomach all day was a handful of chips lol I came home from the boating trip, grabbed my stuff, my friend Amy and went to the cookout. Probably got home about 10 minutes or so ago. We had a good time, but I was definitely ready to go home. It was seriously cold for July– I was in a sweatshirt, and sweatpants and still freezing. And of course, we’ve set of fireworks every year I can remember my entire life, and they have never taken so long! It was a good night though, and I’m definitely glad I went.

For now… I think I’m going to at least try and go to bed. I’ve had a headache all day that’s still making me feel kind of queasy, and I think the fireworks sounds from outside are at least starting to slow down a bit. Goodnight kids!

Rabbit, Rabbit

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

I don’t have much to say today, except I can’t believe it’s already July.

I’m still working on my 101 things list.

I’m crossing my fingers for good weather on Friday because I fully intend to be on a sailboat in the middle of Lake Michigan.

My Wii Fit arrived today! Yay!

That is all!
