Is it Friday yet?

I gotta tell ya, I had a hard time dragging myself out of bed this morning. After pushing the snooze button eleventy billion times, I did manage to convince myself that I did have to come into work to provide my call center services today. I was still disappointed that today is not Friday.

It’s been a long week. Not that it’s been a particularly stressful week at work, but it kind of has been at home. My Grandma was in the hospital from Friday until yesterday afternoon. For a good portion of that time, she was very confused, saying things that didn’t make sense. Generally worrying us all. She’s home now, and not confused, but she’s still got quite a bit of recovering to do.

The picture has nothing to do with anything else… just a picture I snapped on my phone over the weekend. When the trees were finally changed enough to take pretty pictures, and before we got the nasty rain that stripped all the pretty leaves off the trees!

Hello there! This is me earlier this afternoon before I headed over to Aiden’s birthday party. Don’t mind the crazy acne I’ve been dealing with all week. I had a pretty good weekend, even if I’m not ready for it to be over yet!! I got to hang out with one of my best friends on Saturday, and then got some cleaning done.

Then today, as I mentioned, I went to Aiden’s birthday party. It’s hard to believe that he’s 3 years old already! And that any of my friends are old enough to have three year olds! Seriously, weren’t we just in high school yesterday?

Almost Broken Toes

Monday, October 19th, 2009

So… yesterday I was looking for something for lunch since my previous lunch plans were canceled. I opened my freezer, and you usually wouldn’t think that such an act would be fraught with peril. Oh, but you would be wrong!!

Since I am sorely lacking in kitchen storage space, I keep a lot of things on top of the fridge. Apparently, I didn’t get them pushed back far enough because when I opened the freezer door, things began to fall. I managed to catch the container of flour, but the 5lbs of sugar still rocketed towards the ground. I got my feet out of the way, but the sugar container attacked my broom and dustpan anyways. Sugar pinned dustpan to the ground, and well… it wasn’t pretty.

See the aftermath for yourself:

Broken dustpan

Now just imagine what that would have done to my precious little toes!! Who needs the best diet pill when the sugar attacks you? So, now I need to go buy a new dustpan. And punish the sugar… maybe into cookies.

Sunday again! They sure seem to come around fast, don’t they? Or maybe it’s just the weekends that speed by.

Friday night, my friend Amy and I went to Hacienda for dinner and margaritas. I may or may not have had an entire liter of Orange Creme Margaritas all by myself. I got home probably 8:30 or so, and crashed by 9:30.

I can’t really tell you what happened with Saturday… it was one of those days where I can’t really tell you what I did with myself other than have a real lazy day. I watched a bunch of things on the TiVo that had been recording all week, took a nap, that sort of thing.

Today I’m trying to be productive… who needs treadmills when you can go up and downstairs a hundred times working on the laundry? Plus the trips downstairs to take out the trash and the recycling. I was supposed to be going to Mom’s for lunch today but they’re all sickly over at her house, so I’m staying home. Except now I need to figure out my own lunch. Since grocery shopping was on the to-do list that I never got around to yesterday, that’s easier said than done! Maybe I need to call Papa Johns…

DVDs, Please!

Friday, October 16th, 2009

A week or two ago, someone posted a list of funny comments on their blog. Of course, I can’t find it at the moment, but one of the comments was along the lines of…

“Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after DVDs? I don’t want to have to restart my collection.”

Can I just say, amen? I really don’t get what the deal is with the “new” bluray discs. Maybe they’re the best thing ever, I don’t know, and I really don’t care. The thing is, I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 DVDs. I’ve finally managed to get almost all of my VHS movies on DVD. I sure as heck wouldn’t want to start all over again with another type of technology.

You want to change something? Start packaging all my DVDs with a digital copy! Other than that, you are only going to get me to switch to something else kicking and screaming!

Snow in October

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

I’m definitely not ready for this!! Man, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. I was having a dream that I’d been arguing with someone, so I woke up angry. I hate it when that happens because it can be hard to shake that feeling and remind yourself it’s just a dream! So I got myself up, and into the shower… which was of course COLD. Then I turned on the news while I finished getting ready, and they said it was raining.

But that’s not all! There were reports of SNOW mixed in with the rain! I get annoyed when it snows before Thanksgiving, much less before Halloween. Of course, now I’m at work and freezing my buns off. I feel like I’m sitting on a cold garage floor rather than in a chair with a space heater by my feet.

I need to stop complaining though. I’m trying to be in a good mood, despite the funk I woke up in this morning. Maybe I’ll find that easier now that I got some whining out of my system lol

Cold Shower

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

It’s that time of year again already… the time of year where I dread getting in the shower. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have no problems showering, and I do generally like to be, well, clean. However. At this time of year, I have to give myself a little pep talk just to be able to step into my walk in bath (*snort*) in the mornings.

I may have mentioned this before (and I’d be surprised if I haven’t because I complain about it all the time), but my bathroom doesn’t really have a heat source. The only heat in the bathroom is a heat-a-vent in the ceiling, which has a coil similar to an electric stove, which gets hot when you turn it on. The bathtub, however, is on an outside wall of my apartment. You can probably see where this is going. That’s right… when the temperature drops outside, that bathtub shower gets positively frigid! Not exactly conducive to wanting to disrobe and hose off. I could tell that we’ve entered that part of the year when I had to spend a minute or two this morning convincing myself that I was, in fact, NOT going to go to work dirty today.

Buying a house someday wishlist: a bathroom with it’s OWN HEATING VENT!

SPS 10/11/09

Happy Sunday! I had big plans to be super productive today… grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning, the works. So far, I can’t even muster up the energy to clean out the kitchen sinks, much less drag myself out to the grocery store… and then back up a flight of stairs with my bags. My cupboards aren’t completely empty yet, I think I can put it off for another day or two lol

I do need to get motivated enough to do at least one load of laundry though because I don’t have any clean uniforms for work tomorrow. I have to admit, that’s probably the extent of the productivity that is going to happen today. I’m feeling slightly under the weather, so I’m thinking a day of rest can’t be too bad of an idea. Not sick per se, just not great. Just a headache and trying not to take a nap.

Me + the couch + a blanket + a book = sounds like a good lazy Sunday to me!

October Financial Update

Thursday, October 8th, 2009
Debt August 1st October 8th Difference
Chase 535.59 0 -535.59
Capital One 3427.08 3455.18 +28.10
Discover 5113.44 5109.09 -4.35
Perkins Loan 3603.96 3513.31 -90.65
Nelnet 13842.88 13795.55 -47.33
Total 26522.07 25873.13 -648.94

The numbers probably don’t look as low as they should since I missed a monthly update, but I haven’t yet made this month’s payments to these accounts. Capital One went the wrong direction because that’s the card I used to pay to check my baggage while I was traveling last weekend. I think I also charged one meal to that card while in Orlando. I get paid tomorrow though, so I’ll be able to make my monthly payment + the extra and get that card moving back in the direction it is supposed to be going.

As you can see, I did in fact get the Chase card paid off in August. Woohoo! I haven’t yet been able to snowball the money I’d been paying towards that card though. In fact, I probably won’t be doing that until at least January. First, I used the money I freed up to buy some Christmas presents, and then to finance my trip to Florida. I have a lot of things that require money between now and the end of the year (such as the rest of the Christmas presents, car insurance, and the registration for my car) so it is unlikely I’ll be doing anything more than making minimum payments. I need to sit down and map out a budget for the next few months to make sure I can pay for the things that I need to, and finish buying Christmas presents without tapping into any of my credit. It will probably be rather tight (I spent too much money in the week before I left for Florida), but I should be able to make it work.

Assuming I quit buying things for my iPhone since it already upped my cell phone payment by $30/month. Oh… did I forget to mention that I bought an iPhone and it’s expensive data plan while I’m still not out of debt? Hmm… must have been an oversight on my part. ;) I’ll keep you posted on my progress!

Back Home Again in Indiana

Me and my Buddy, IceBar

This is the picture I would have used for my Self Portrait Sunday post this week if I had managed to blog on Sunday… or even yesterday. So, how about Self Portrait Tuesday? Even though this picture was taken on Friday… by Colleen… and not a Self Portrait at all? Details, details.

Obviously, I’m back home in Indiana now, and back to work. It’s cold and rainy and just two days ago, I was dying in the heat in Orlando! Maybe that’s why I’m feeling like I might be getting sick…

Cold weather notwithstanding, it is nice to be back at home. Traveling is always fun, but I’m always glad to get back home to my own bed. And the kitties were definitely glad to see me when I got in!

The rest of my trip that I haven’t written about yet was great! Saturday night, Colleen and I went out to dinner with Trevor and Andrew. Then it was on to Howl at the Moon, a piano bar similar to Rum Runner’s for those in the area.

Howl at the Moon

We hung out, used up our free drink tickets and then turned in relatively early to prepare for the big day at SEAWORLD! Yes, that deserves all caps. I’d never been to Seaworld before, and I was pretty excited about it.

Dolphin show

I think I grinned through the entire dolphin show, I felt like such a little kid. I kept telling Colleen, “That has to be the greatest. job. ever!”

Then of course, we had to go see Shamu. You can’t go to Seaworld and not see Shamu!

Killer whales

We rode the coasters in the park– Manta and Kraken. Manta is their new, very hyped up roller coaster. After you get strapped into the ride, it rotates you so you are laying on your belly. There’s nothing below you throughout the ride. That was pretty cool, but I think Kraken was better. It had a much better first drop, but I enjoyed all the rides we were on this weekend, both at Busch Gardens and Seaworld.

Then we decided to head for Tampa. Colleen was ready to head for home, and I was grateful. I was having a blast, but this Indiana girl just isn’t used to heat like that in October and my feet were screaming at me too. I spent the rest of Sunday night at Colleen’s house, with her family, trying to figure out how I was going to steal her dog.

Making friends with Colleen's dog

Monday morning, I packed up all my stuff and got ready to head home. Colleen dropped me off at the airport so I said goodbye to her (*sniff*) and started the process of flying home. I was not crazy about my seating arrangements on the flights, but I complained enough about that yesterday that I’ll spare you!

All in all, I had a fantastic weekend. I enjoyed the weather, the theme parks, the parts of the conference I didn’t nap through, and of course getting to see and hang out with Colleen!
