Just Because…
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009Why write about things like copper kitchen sinks when you can post everything else? Like pictures of this rotten kid? (Everything but the kitchen sink. Get it? Haha? No? Well, I tried.)
This picture is from Mother’s Day when everyone was at my house. Cute as a bug, and growing up way too fast! I actually haven’t seen him since the day this picture was taken, and I miss the little guy!
Vacation Envy
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009I’ve got that itch to get out of town and go see something exciting… Actually, I’ve just got that itch to get out of town. It doesn’t have to be particularly exciting (although that would definitely be a bonus). I’d be content to stick myself out on a beach somewhere and come back in a few days. Never mind that I’m busy trying to pay off my debt, and really can’t afford a vacation. That hasn’t stopped me from spending a good portion of the last hour researching vacation options… everything from the location to the hotel to the travel health insurance. It’s fun to think about it, but looking at all my options is just reinforcing “Heck no, you can’t afford that!”
Maybe when I get my first credit card paid off by the end of this year, I’ll think about taking some money and going somewhere for a long weekend. We’ll see. In the meantime, I’m looking at this overcast rainy day and longing for beach weather.
Total Body Massage
Saturday, April 18th, 2009So when I mentioned on Sunday that I was sore, more on that later, I had every intention of coming back on Monday and explaining WHY… well, best of intentions and all that. I’ve needed to go to the grocery store and buy things like light bulbs, and toilet paper, and you know, FOOD. But I haven’t done that either, so don’t feel too left out.
In any case, the reason I was so sore on Sunday is that Mom and I went to the local beauty college for Full Body Massages on Saturday morning. Now, you might not think that a massage = pain, but you would be wrong. I managed to keep my mouth shut, but there were many times during the massage that I was yelling “Ow, ow, ow!” in my head. The muscles in my shoulders are always very tight, and she was bound and determined to get them to loosen up. There was also one spot on my lower back, just above my right hip, that she kept coming back to.
A selection of the thoughts running through my mind, mid-massage:
“Ow, ow, ow!”
“Is she trying to push me off the table?”
“If I hear that wave crash one more time, I might pee myself.”
“What happens if I fart?”
“I hope that’s not her boob on my head.”
“My earlobes, really?”
“Okay, my armpit fat really does NOT need massaged.”
It was nice, but I’d have been happy with just the back massage. The “total body” part of it was strange… I didn’t need my arms massaged. Or my earlobes. And I could’ve done without her rubbing the lotion through my hair. Mom and I were going out for breakfast after the massages, but our next stop was my apartment for a couple of hats. We looked like we hadn’t washed our hair in weeks!
Nightgowns, Cell Phones and Work Holidays
Friday, April 10th, 2009Look at me, not writing for more than a week… not participating in Self Portrait Sunday and not even making an excuse! Then I come back, post a picture of my cat, and run. So here you go… a picture of BOTH of my cats, on a cat blanket. Awww… They looked so cute sitting there, too bad they refuse to look at the camera and be cute for a picture. ANYWAYS. So I haven’t been writing, but not because I’ve had nothing to say. More like I haven’t had anything to say that seemed worth it’s own blog post.
Like:
~ Why is it so hard to find cute night gowns for “curvy” girls. By that, of course, I mean a fat chick who has big boobs. Most of the nightgowns to be found are what I call “old lady.” Sometimes I can find cute PJs in my size, but then they don’t have enough fabric to cover my chest. I’m not looking for sexy corsets (although, I’ll gladly order one of those if I can order the man to wear it for too.
), I’m just looking for a cute nightgown that fits. I ordered a couple from Old Navy, but they had the opposite problem– there was enough fabric puckering out of my armpits for a couple more breasts.
~ Is it really unreasonable to expect a cell phone to last more than a year? I don’t have a landline, so my cell is the only phone I have. It’s now decided that it’s not going to charge. The phone lights up, even beeps, when it gets plugged in, but it will not start charging. The only charger I have that will actually charge the phone is my car charger. Unacceptable. It’s currently beeping that it has a low battery, but I really don’t want to go sit in my car and charge my phone either.
~ Why are 4 day work weeks the Longest. Weeks. Ever? Those four days felt more like seven.
~ For a day off, today sure hasn’t been restful! I was up before 6… usually I can at least manage until 6:30 or 7 on the weekends, but the cats weren’t having any of it this morning. I’ve also been cleaning today. So far today, I’ve washed dishes, scrubbed down the stove, made the bed, swept all the floors. I need to clean the rotting food out of the fridge and take the trash out. Then I’m going to take a shower and call it good. Maybe even take a nap… it’s a day off, after all!
Not a Winner
Tuesday, March 31st, 2009I’ve decided that I’m just not a winner… There are people out there who are just plain lucky. They’ll constantly tell you about this thing that they won, and that thing that they won. I enter contests all the time, but I just never win. I did win some books during a Bloggy Giveaway a year ago, I think… and I won a raffle my senior year of high school (one of 10 people), but all the rest of the contests I take the time to enter? Nada. I think it’s pretty clear that I’m not going to be the one telling you about the free hotel stay that I won, or the spa trip, or the flight to somewhere fantastic. Oh well! If we have to work hard for the things we get, that means that we appreciate them more, right?
Where Did You Learn to Drive?
Monday, March 23rd, 2009You know how there are always people who think they could fly an airplane because they’ve logged time with games that have flight simulators? Well, I’m starting to think that there are people out there driving cars who think they know how to drive because they play Mario Kart with their Wii accessories every night… sitting on your couch with a little plastic wheel does not make you an expert!
It’s no secret that I have many road-related pet peeves, but man! People are just driving me crazy lately with the psycho driving! The other day, I was driving down the road doing about 50 mph (which was the speed limit, by the way!) when a truck pulled out in front of me. Naturally, I ended up pretty close to his bumper and HE is the one making angry gestures at ME. DUDE. There may have been some yelling and not so nice words involved…
Then there are people like this morning. I’m waiting to make a left turn, and the person in front of me turns before they should have. In their defense, there was a line of traffic on the other side waiting to turn, and you couldn’t see around them. A truck whipped around from the back of that lane, to speed through the intersection. They narrowly avoided hitting each other. Now, it might sound like I’m annoyed with the car that had been in front of me, but I’m annoyed with the truck. They didn’t even flash their brakes… if anything they SPED UP when they saw the car turning in front of them. Seriously? Why? Yes, it would be their fault if you hit them, but if you DO hit someone at those speeds, someone is going to get seriously hurt. I just don’t get why people drive like that.
But it’s not just drivers! Yesterday I almost got to see a kid on a bicycle get hit by a city bus because he crossed a busy street, against a red light, in front of a freaking BUS! The bus swerved and braked not to hit the kid. P.S. People on bikes have to follow the rules of the road too! Yes, that means that red lights, stop signs and right of way apply to you!
Cleaning and Imaginary Gardens
Sunday, March 22nd, 2009If I wasn’t so vain, I’d do a Self Portrait Part Two. I’ve been cleaning since I made my last post, so I’m looking considerably less “put together” at the moment! How many years have I been washing dishes? And I still can’t manage to wash a sink full of dishes without completely soaking myself.
Of course, I say I’ve “been cleaning” since the last post, but in reality I’ve probably done as much playing on the internet as cleaning. You know, run the water in the sink… check for Twitter replies… empty the bathroom trash can… check email… clean litter boxes… play Word Hunt…
I’ve quit working for tonight so I can get something to eat and get to bed, which is just as well since I got distracted by someone’s tutorial for a raised bed garden. See, I’ve got this crazy idea in my head that if I had a yard, I’d put in a garden. Not that I’d have *any* clue whatsoever what to do with a garden if I had one. I think I’m just ready for the fresh fruits and vegetables of summer, and reading about everyone’s plans for their gardens and Blackberry plants and tomatoes has addled my brain! Surely, that must be it!
Gorgeous Weather
Friday, March 6th, 2009Oh my goodness, it is absolutely gorgeous outside today! It’s 66 degrees and sunny. I considered taking my lunch outside this morning, but decided against it– I knew if I went outside to soak up some of the sunshine, I’d have had a hard time making myself come back inside! Luckily I have a lot of windows by my desk, so I can enjoy the sunshine pouring in, even if I can’t enjoy the higher temperatures. We’re supposed to get some rain this weekend, but I’m hoping it will hold off at least long enough for me to be able to get outside and enjoy some of this spring weather after work today. If nothing else, I’ll be able to enjoy opening the windows at home.
The spring-like weather notwithstanding, isn’t it a little bit early for prom stuff just yet?? When I was in high school, the prom was always the weekend of Mother’s Day, but I’m already hearing commercials for prom-related things: tuxedos, prom dresses, limos, etc. I guess there’s such a thing as planning ahead, but it still seems early to me. But then again, I feel like this year is speeding right by already so maybe it’s just me digging my heels in.
Yeah, About That…
Monday, February 23rd, 2009Do they make laptop memory for human brains? Cause I had every intention of posting a self portrait yesterday… I took a picture before I took a nap, and then I even got the pictures off of my camera and onto the computer. Then I got completely distracted with other things (painting my toenails, shaving my legs and watching Fever Pitch) and never got it posted. I didn’t even get the picture uploaded, so I can’t post it right now. Maybe when I get home tonight… if I remember!
I’ve also gotta say, I’ve had just about enough of this snow thing! After I got in on Friday night, I didn’t leave my apartment until this morning. I grossly underestimated the amount of snow there would be on my car. It took me FOREVER to get my windows clear this morning! Enough to make me seriously late for work… if I’d realized how much snow there was, I’d have gone out sometime yesterday and cleared at least some of it off. As it is, my car is still sitting in the parking lot at work with several inches on top!
