Walking

Friday, June 12th, 2009

In an effort to look less like I could use some diet pills, I’ve been trying to get into the swing of being more active. I intended to start the Couch to 5k running program as that’s on my 101 Things list, but I think that program is for fit couch potatoes LOL Basically, all the muscles below my knees rebelled at the idea of running, so I’m starting even slower than that.

Every day this week, I’ve gone walking. I missed yesterday due to the rain that just would not quit. It finally did stop raining about the time I got dinner, but I couldn’t be sure it was actually done and I had no desire to be caught out in the rain. I’ve been walking in the cemetery that’s not far from my apartment. It’s pretty peaceful, and I don’t have to worry about feeling self-conscious about all the cars going by. Another plus to walking in the cemetery– no teenage boys to drive by and remind you that you’re fat! You do spend a lot of time thinking about death though! If you ever want to make your problems feel really insignificant, go to the nearest cemetery and find the section of babies. Puts everything in perspective.

Head full of Ick

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Well, I made it all of 4 days before I missed 3 days of updates… guess that’s a no on NaBloPoMo for me. :) In reality, what happened was that Wednesday I woke up with the Ick and I’ve spent all week feeling horrible. I spent the days at work basically watching the clock, and the evenings on the couch nursing a bottle of NyQuil. I didn’t have the energy to write on my blog. Which is a shame really, because what’s the point of having a blog if I can’t subject all of you to my whining about sore throats and post-nasal drip? But alas, I’ve been in bed before 8pm all week, and still had a hard time dragging myself out of bed when the alarm went off at 5am.

Today I feel… better. Not great, but better. I’d love to spend the entire day under a blanket on the couch, but I’ve got things to do, places to be, my best friend’s bridal shower to attend! So I’ll just pump my system full of drugs and hope for a nap later. I can deal with the stuffiness a whole lot better because I don’t feel like I’ve been drug behind a mack truck all night. I’d still prefer not to be sniffling and coughing up a lung, but I’ll deal. So there you are… the requisite “I’m sick” blog whining! Now I suppose I’ll go drag my sick self into the shower because today’s plans are sneaking up on me faster than I’m prepared for.

Eating Breakfast

Monday, October 6th, 2008

It is 9:04 am, and I am NOT hungry. I seem to have found a good appetite suppressant…. want to know what it is? *drum roll please* Eating a good breakfast! Seems like those “experts” might know what they are talking about after all.

I have to leave for work by 6:30 in the morning, and I’m just not a person who has much of an appetite when I first get up. So usually I find myself grabbing a quick bowl of cereal before making a mad dash to finish getting ready and get out the door on time. And then of course, I’m hungry by 9am, and positively starving by lunch time. For the last week or so, however, including this morning, I’ve stuck a few brown n’ serve sausages in the microwave and scrambled up a few eggs for breakfast. It doesn’t take more than a few extra minutes, and even though I don’t have much of an appetite that early in the morning, I haven’t had a problem getting them down. Even better, it’s almost lunch time before I’m really starting to feel hungry. Definitely a step up from getting hungry at 9am and spending a couple hours trying to stay out of the chocolate!

8 Months of Freedom

Monday, July 28th, 2008

From the dentist that is. I had my 6 month cleaning this afternoon, which of course was the high point of my day. [/sarcasm] I am not a big fan of the dentist, and I felt bad today because I was 15 minutes late for my appointment. My appointment was scheduled for 4:20pm. I don’t get off until 4… I left work at ten after 4, had no choice but to run home before heading to the dentist office. Luckily, my dentist is only a block away from the apartment, but it still takes twenty minutes to get home from work most days. Especially when you hit EVERY SINGLE RED LIGHT on the way!

The worst part was probably walking in the door, and seeing them talking about the fact that I was late. I was afraid the disapproving looks I got when I walked in the door were going to last for my entire appointment. I think we all learned a lesson though, and my next appointment is at 5:10pm so the mad dash from work won’t be an issue. That’s also why it’s an 8 month reprieve instead of 6 months– the next late appointment available wasn’t until March. In the meantime, the dentist said my mouth looks healthy, and there have been no changes in my teeth since January. Woohoo!

Blind as a Bat

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

It’s no secret that I wear glasses. You guys see a picture of me every Sunday (or almost every Sunday) and I’ve got spectacles on my face. For a few years in high school and college, I wore contacts, but I ended up having problems with the contacts irritating my eyes and would have to leave them out for about two weeks before I could wear them again. I got to the point where I just didn’t care anymore and just wore my glasses full time. Most of the time, I’m happy with that, but every once in awhile I start thinking about something like Lasik again. Like on Saturday. Saturday, Sarah and I went over to my dad’s to use his pool… I always wish I had better vision when I’m swimming because I may as well be blind without my glasses on, and lets face it– swimming with eyeglasses just isn’t practical. I haven’t seriously considered lasik for a couple of reasons… one being the cost, and the other being I’m just a worrier, and I can’t help but wonder about the long term effects. If there is a horror story to be found, don’t worry, I’ll find it.

Almost Human

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

I’ just sitting here watching the American Idol Finale so I thought I’d check in. Actually, I’m mostly fast forwarding through the finale, thank God for Tivo. I’m about to catch up with the broadcast though, I’ve skipped such a large chunk of the show. Only a half an hour or so until they reveal the actual results, and I’m still rooting for David Cook. I could definitely do without the whole top 12 singing… for the most part, their performances are just reminding me of why they didn’t make it all the way to the top.

Anyways, as the title suggests, I’m finally feeling almost human again. I still don’t feel GREAT, and I’m sure my boss is tired of hearing me cough all freaking day long, but it’s getting much better! Slowly but surely the plague is working its way out of my system. Now, if I could just manage to get some decent sleep…

Still Not Cooperating

Monday, May 19th, 2008

I’m not sure whether I’m talking about my sinuses or my computer because that statement fits for both of them. Actually, the computer was behaving slightly better this morning, so I might not need a computer rental after all. We’ll see how it’s doing when I get home from work.

The sinuses, on the other hand, need to be fired. I hardly slept all night… I literally saw every hour go by, and I was actually out of bed for about an hour and a half in the middle of the night. Between my nose that plugged up and refused to clear, and the hacking cough, I certainly woke up feeling like hell. I was coughing so hard, I was afraid I was going to throw up! Actually when I was awake and staring at the clock at 2 am, I was considering the merits of calling off sick. In the end I decided that if I’m going to suffer, I might as well get paid for it. Fingers crossed that the good drugs keep me slightly sane over the course of today!

Stuffed up Sinuses

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

My sinuses are so stuffed up that I am just completely miserable. Don’t need a clinical laboratory service to tell me that I’m in serious need of a decongestant… Actually, I just took some night cold medicine and will probably be going to bed when my TV show is over, or when the meds kick in, whichever comes first.

Sorry for the lack of exciting updates lately… between the things I can’t/don’t want to blog about and the amount of snot exiting my body, I feel like there are no thoughts in my head.

Brush and Floss, or Floss and Brush

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Nothing too exciting in Chez Footprints tonight, but I just have one question for you all. It’s very deep, and very important. Are you ready??

Do you brush your teeth, then floss? Or do you floss and then brush? Which is the correct way to do it?

As you can see, I’ll hardly be able to sleep at night until I know the answer.

Razor Burn. Ouch!

Monday, May 5th, 2008

I had every intention of spending some time on the internet today looking for some kind of natural acne treatment because nothing I’ve tried so far really helps and I’m tired of looking like a teenager going through puberty… but something else has my complete attention. Like an alternative to shaving! I got real crazy and shaved my legs yesterday… so they are nice and smooth and touchable. That’s not really the problem, though I do completely abhor shaving my legs and do it as infrequently as I can manage to get away with…

The problem is the patch of razor burn that I gave myself. On my outer thigh… right where the seam of my pants keeps rubbing. And have I mentioned that I find it nearly impossible to sit still for any decent length of time? Yeah, ow. It’s a very small little spot, but it sure is irritating!
