Happy Humpday

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Welcome to Wednesday, everyone. I’m at work, as I usually am on a Wednesday, and I am freezing. They are doing work on the boilers today, so they are shut down… meaning there is nothing to regulate temperature– the air conditioner is just pretty much running, and won’t sense that it’s reached an appropriate temperature and shut off. Though, I suppose too much air is probably better than no air at all.
Still, I sit in the front of the building, so people who come in by my desk are just coming in from outside. And they are making fun of me for having a jacket on. Wonder what they’d say if they could see the space heater that’s running under my desk? Anyways, it may not seem that cold to them, but if they were sitting here rather than just passing through, they’d be cold too! Trust me, if I had gloves in the pockets of my jacket, I’d be wearing those too– the tips of my fingers are like icicles! (Though, they get like that even when the rest of me isn’t freezing, so that’s almost beside the point.) Hope you all have a great day, and comfortable temperatures.

TGIF

Friday, July 6th, 2007

I’m so glad it’s Friday… thirty more minutes and I’m free for the weekend. I have absolutely ZERO plans, but that’s besides the point. It’s the annual summer shutdown at work, so all of production is off, and a good portion of the office people are on vacation. It’s been very quiet around here, which translates into I’M SO BORED! I’ve done a decent job of entertaining myself, but even the internet world seems quiet, so some days that has been a bit of a chore! Shutdown continues next week, but many of the vacationers are coming back, my boss included, so hopefully it won’t be so mindnumbingly boring. 28 minutes…

Poor Trees

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

The landscaping company is here today, and they are trimming the bushes and getting all the dead stuff out, mowing and all that good stuff. But they hacked up my poor trees! My desk faces a window, and there are two trees side by side right outside. They’d finally recovered from the late snow and frost we had this year, and were full and beautiful. The landscaping company just got done thinning them out, and they look so sad. They stripped off most of the leaves on the insides and thinned out the edges. Granted, now I can see the gate on the other side of them, and I couldn’t before, but that’s not the point. What do they think I am, a security guard? Visibility isn’t important for security, is it?

Drama, Drama, Drama

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

I haven’t really been writing over here much this week… that’s due mainly to my not having much to say besides whining. There’s been lots of drama at work lately, and since it’s about things I can’t change, and things I can’t really write about in public anyways, I kept my whining “behind closed doors,” so to speak. Though I feel sorry to my poor friends who have had to put up with my whining and complaining this week. Sorry, but they’ve just given me lots of things to complain about! When my boss and I were pow-wowing in his office I was getting upset (which of course freaks him out), and I said that I just felt like I was being attacked, and he said “Imagine how it is for me!” Which is true… so I’m trying to take deep breaths and not worry too much about things that are out of my control. Trying being the operative word.

Music Problem Solved

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

I have solved my music problem at work, and I don’t even have to buy a new radio! Basically all day yesterday I listened to my Phantom of the Opera soundtrack because that’s what I had here. Now, I love the music from Phantom, but there are only so many times you can listen to it back to back before the silence would be a better option!

Today I brought my iPod, and a book of CDs. The plan was to get the music off the iPod if I could, but the CDs were here as backup because I couldn’t handle another day of Phantom all day long. I listened to a couple of CDs and then dug out my iPod… I got all the music transferred onto my computer. Woohoo! I think that since I have well over 24 hours worth of music to go through, I should be set for awhile, don’t you??

I am going to put iTunes on this computer though– the only media player it has right now is Windows Media Player, and I just don’t like it…

Lunch Date

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

So who is going to come and have lunch with me today?? I just found out that Janette called off work today… that means I’m going to be all alone at lunch today. It’s usually me, Janette, and Amy, but Amy is currently in Thailand for a couple of weeks. It’s not the end of the world, but I certainly prefer not to eat lunch by myself. Ron will be happy though– me by myself means I won’t be too distracted to come back from lunch on time! ;) Alot of times when I know I’m going to be on my own for lunch, I’ll grab something and hang at my dad’s for awhile, but I don’t really want anything fast food, and there’s a crazy amount of construction between here and there. I’d have to turn around as soon as I got there. So lunch in the cafeteria it is… And the sooner the better, I’m hungry and I desperately have to pee!!

R.I.P. Radio

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

It is a very sad day… my radio at work has officially given up the ghost. It’s been dying for awhile– you couldn’t get it to turn on the radio portion without turning it to CD first. And even then, it took awhile to get it to work. I got to the point where I didn’t turn it off, I just turned down the volume. Yesterday afternoon, it just itself off and won’t come back on. I think it’s really a problem with the wiring to the on/off switch because now the CD player doesn’t want to turn on either, but you can usually get it by jiggling the button a bit.
Of course, I completely forgot about this this morning, so I didn’t bring my mp3 player, or CDs or anything. The only CD I have here will play for a little while and then skip like crazy. The internet filter blocks pretty much every radio station online. I found one that would play in Windows Media Player, but it is probably the most annoying radio station ever. I haven’t figured out what city it’s coming out of yet, but the D.J.s are seriously obnoxious. It is, however, better than listening to the deafening silence in here by myself all day.

Those of you with iPods… if I brought mine to work with me, and hooked it up to my computer, would I be able to get the songs off of it? Or does it only go the other way?

Sign for my Car

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

When I first started with the security company, I was at a different location across town and we had a company truck. I was working third shift, and part of my job included perimeter and fence checks. I was glad that we didn’t have one of those squad car type security vehicles, but I often wished there was at least a small sign on the side of the truck that simply said “Security.” When you are lurking around the fences and buildings of a big corporation at 3 o’clock in the morning, the police tend to not like that. I was always afraid I’d get pulled over. I don’t work over there anymore, so it’s someone else’s problem, but I still think they should look into magnetic car signs or something to label the truck. The site is closing down now, and the police are likely to be even more cautious about who is around over there!
Can I get one for my personal vehicle?? Is it illegal to impersonate a security guard? What if you really are a security guard? Maybe I’ll order a special sign and see if I can sneak into the next parade like I’m someone important…

Crocheting and Cameras

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

I brought my crochet to work with me today… I decided to finally get working on the blanket that I started for my self months and months ago. Not 10 minutes go by, and the phone rings– it’s the guys out in the guardhouse. Phil’s the one on the phone.

“Hey Jennifer… Ron’s out here lying to me. He says I can’t knit. Do you think I can knit?”

Do I think you can knit?

“Yeah, do you think I can do what you’re doing right there?”

I don’t feel the need to try and explain the difference between crochet and knit, so I don’t really answer this question…

“What are you working on?”

A blanket…

“We can’t see it, hold it up! … well that looks like a star!”

That’s because it is a star…

Later I had to explain why my blanket was so small lol Sometimes it really unsettles me that they watch me on the camera all.day.long. Repeat to self: They are making sure I’m safe, they are making sure I’m safe, they are making sure I’m safe… yeah, whatever!!

But yeah, making myself a blanket… star shaped, blue and white… cheap, worsted weight yarn. I should get a picture of where it’s at now, and then an updated picture later. It will be ages before I finish it.

Torture!!

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

My sister-in-law is looking for a job, so she’s putting an application in with the company I work for. She came in this morning to get an application and to talk to my boss, and they’re currently holed up in the little conference room off the lobby. I was hoping they’d sit in his office, or at least leave the conference door open so I could eavesdrop! I’m nosy!! I guess I’ll have to get my dirt from her later. It’s torture to sit here and be able to hear them talking, but not know what they’re saying. I can make out Gary’s words if I try hard enough, but I can’t hear her. *sigh* My life is so difficult! ;) I really want her to get a job here, at the place I work, but I think he’ll place her somewhere else. I guess we’ll see, won’t we? Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to focus on eavesdropping on the other side of the room!
