My Dirty Little Secret

April 17th, 2010 by Jennifer

Boy, I’m looking forward to the google searches that will land people here from THAT title lol It’s not so much a dirty little secret as it is a bad, slightly embarrassing habit.

Any guesses? What you are looking at is a pile of kleenexes that I pulled out from beneath/behind my bed. (For scale, the furniture in the background is one of my nightstands doubling as tv stands in the bedroom. Well, only one is a tv stand…) See, I have a bad habit of falling asleep with a kleenex in my hand. At some point, I fall asleep, my hand relaxes, and I drop the Kleenex, usually behind the bed.

I don’t really know why I feel compelled to share this with you other than the fact that I recently got the broom out to get all the tissues out from behind my bed and was amused by how many there were! These just about filled up a grocery bag. Apparently I need to stop holding tissues while I’m falling asleep. Or clean under my bed more often. Or both. ;)

OH! And just to clarify, this isn’t a pile of snotty used tissues… they were used to wipe my watery eyes. I don’t know if that makes it less gross or not.

Freaking out about Money

April 15th, 2010 by Jennifer

I haven’t felt like this in awhile. This panicked, what the heck am I going to do, feeling about money has been mostly gone since I started making progress on all of my debts. I sat down today to evaluate everything, though, and that feeling is back full force.

I’m looking at losing a decent portion of my paycheck going forward. The overtime has dried up at work, and in case you’re confused as to why this might be such a big problem, I’ve been pulling in 7 hours of overtime per week for the last 3 years. 7 hours isn’t a whole lot, but it adds up. I’ve got one more paycheck with 8 hours of overtime on it (opposed to the 14 from before), and then it’s just 40 hours of straight time after that.

I don’t know exactly what my paycheck is going to look like then, but I have a pretty good idea where it will be at and I’m freaking out. I’m looking at going back to barely making the minimum payments on everything instead of having several hundred extra dollars per month to pay down my accounts. It is scary and I’m thinking it might be time to look at additional part-time admin jobs, or anything really, to supplement my current income.

All I know is I am freaking out. I’ll update my account totals some other time. Just know that I’m not making much progress, but am slowly but surely still headed in the right direction.

This is what you get when I’m too lazy to get up and turn on the light or grab a real camera lol

I had a pretty good weekend. Finally got the busted up recliner out of my living room, it is now outdoor décor! I also went to dinner with family and chased my nephew around at the playground yesterday! Today was grocery shopping and cleaning. Yay?

For now, it’s off to bed to get ready for a new week! And to try and distract you from the brevity of this blog post by posting a picture of my nephew at the playground. Too cute :)

Whoops!

Um, whoops? I didn’t mean to go so long without posting. I’ve been drafting posts in my head, but I just haven’t quite managed to translate that into actually sitting down at the computer and typing something out. SO this is the picture I would have posted (and planned to!) on Sunday for my Self Portrait, had I just gotten around to it. Taken on Easter Sunday before I left for family gatherings.

I need to get myself in bed at the moment, but I’ll try not to let so much time pass before my next post! I’ll have to make a bigger effort to make time for blogging, I just feel like I’ve been so busy lately! Whether or not I have actually BEEN busy might be debatable. :)

Just a quick post from me since I need to be getting in bed in just a minute here. My alarm goes off in 6 hours for work tomorrow. Something tells me Monday might be a long day! lol If I took this picture tomorrow after work, I’d probably need some wrinkle filler to fill in the bags under my eyes! No complaints though, I’ll take the 4 hours of overtime. Every little bit adds up when you’re trying to pay the bills! Have a good rest of your Sunday everyone, I’m off to bed!

Happy Pi Day! I didn’t have any. Pie, that is. I had a rather productive weekend though. I went grocery shopping and got food for the week plus food for lunches at work. I bought 6 new shirts to wear since a lot of mine are rather ratty looking. And I bought Madelyn’s birthday present since she turns ONE next week!

After I finished spending all my money, I came home and put everything away and then started cleaning. The living room is still rather cluttered, but the rest of my apartment looks nice!

Oh! And back in the realm of spending money… I finally purchased renter’s insurance! Just shy of four years after I started renting this apartment lol I emptied one of my ING accounts to pay for the year in full in order to avoid any fees. THEN I really stopped spending all my money!

Now I’m just trying to get myself in bed. It’s difficult because it’s definitely past my bedtime, but it doesn’t feel like it because it’s “really” only 8pm and not 9pm. I hate Daylight Savings Time. Curse Mitch Daniels, the dip machine, and his switching Indiana onto DST… I rather liked being one of the only holdouts and not having to change my clocks twice a year. This time of year, we used to be on central time, and now we’re on Eastern time year round. It stays light WAAAAY too late in the middle of the summer, we’re too far west to be in this timezone. But I digress. I could whine about DST forever. In the meantime, I’m going to try and go to bed now because the feelings of jetlag will be bad enough tomorrow without me staying up way too late.

Well, Now That’s Useful

March 12th, 2010 by Jennifer

One night last week, I was too lazy to cook (ha! big surprise, right?) so I swung through the Taco Bell drive thru closest to my house. I got dinner, but I also figured out exactly why I generally prefer to pay with my debit card. I handed her a $20 bill, and among the change I got back, I received this:

Now. Tell me exactly who I am supposed to foist this off on now? That dollar bill is about as useful to me as a motorcycle accident attorney would be right now. As in, not at all. Seriously. I would imagine that if I tried to give them BACK their half a dollar bill, they probably wouldn’t accept it.

I had a pretty crazy week… lots of things changing at work this week, super busy. Then I picked up an extra shift this weekend. Third shift. Man, I am so not used to that anymore! I tried to take a nap yesterday afternoon, but it didn’t work so well. I came home and slept for about 3 hours this morning, but I’ve been up since then.

Laundry kept me busy for a few hours, but now I’m watching Where All the Wild Things Are and dreaming of heated mattress pads. Okay, maybe not, but I am watching the movie, and all I’m trying to do at this point is stay up until a more appropriate bed time! I could totally go to bed right now, but I don’t want to be awake at 3 or 4 in the morning either.

Am I rambling? I feel like I’m rambling. I also feel like there isn’t a coherent thought in my head. Isn’t that the perfect time to blog?! LOL

Today is the last day of February. I feel like I say this alot, but where the heck is the time going?! But at least I’ve got a picture that doesn’t look like it’s for a best acne medicine ad lol

I had a pretty good Sunday. I woke up way too freaking early, as I always seem to do. After spending some time just playing around on the computer, I did some cleaning up around the house. Then I showered and headed over to my Grandma’s house for dinner with Grandma, Mom and Harold. Then we spent some time playing Groups and Runs, and a good time was had by all. It was just nice to hang out and play cards… we used to play games all the time, and we just hadn’t done that in a long time. Cards used to be a huge staple of family gatherings, and growing up Mom and I would just call up Grandma and announce we were coming over.

Anyways, I had a lot of fun, and I’d like to do that more often in the future. :) And since I know she’ll be reading this– I love you Grandma!

Now, I’m watching the end of the Amazing Race before heading to bed… time to start a new week! Yay?

Super Saturday

February 28th, 2010 by Jennifer

I had a great Saturday! Sarah and I had a nice girls day, no testosterone boosters required. She came and picked me up at 9am, and we headed towards Michigan City and the Lighthouse outlet Mall.

I bought a few pair of earrings at Claire’s, walked out of the Pepperidge Farm outlet store empty handed, and bought 5 antibacterial soaps from Bath and Body Works for less than $13. All in all, it was a successful trip! I also had plans to visit the Corelle outlet there in hopes of buying additional plates in the pattern I have. My glasses had other plans though!

We were headed to the car to move it around to the other side of the mall (it’s all outdoors, and it was snowy and windy– too far to walk there and back in the cold!) All of a sudden, POP, and I stuck my hand out to catch one of the lenses that was falling. The screw was long gone though, so we left and headed for a Walgreens to get an eyeglasses repair kit. A few minutes later, I had a new screw in my glasses so I could see again!

Rather than heading back to the outlet mall (I’d decided I’d already spent enough money there), we decided to go for home. Partway there, we detoured to the Four Winds casino… unfortunately all I did there was donate $20. Oh well. It was fun! Then we really did go home and stop spending money. I’ll have to go back and check out the Corelle store at another time.
