I always find is surprising at how strong the ties between certain songs and certain memories can be. I’m sure you all have experiences that let you know exactly what I’m talking about. I’m reminded of this because I have a CD (Miranda Lambert- Kerosene) that I listened to endlessly in my car about a year ago. I haven’t listened to it in a really long time. One of the songs came on the radio yesterday though, and I was instantly transported back to listening to the song in the car on my way home from work, talking to my then-boyfriend on the phone. The song “Lady in Red” will probably always make me think of my junior prom. The Dixie Chicks song “There’s Your Trouble” reminds me of driving around with my friend Sarah because she blared the radio and played it endlessly on a loop. The list goes on, and it grows every day. They say that the sense of smell is the strongest sense related to memory, but I don’t have that great of a sense of smell, so it’s definitely the music related to a memory that is the strongest for me.
